BIG Restaurant Changes and More Disney News You MISSED

It’s summer, and you’d think that might mean there wouldn’t be a lot of Disney news right now, but we’ve got some big stories to tell you about from this week!

We wonder what they’re talking about!

While we were checking out the newest pair of Lightyear Minnie ears and making sure you’re ready for Amazon Prime Day, we’ve also been keeping an eye on all the big Disney news!

Here are the five biggest Disney news stories of the week that you might have MISSED.

Disney World Dining News

We have quite a bit of big restaurant news to share with you from Disney World. First, the signature dining experience at Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa finally has a reopening date: July 28th! Reservations will open on June 20th, so get those alarms set if you’re hoping to eat here.

We also learned that the buffet at the character dining restaurant Hollywood & Vine in Disney’s Hollywood Studio will return on August 28th. The restaurant has been serving food family-style since it reopened.

Finally, there are a ton of new menu items coming to Disney World restaurants — we’ve listed EVERYTHING here. Plus Olivia’s Cafe at Disney’s Old Key West Resort will start serving brunch every day of the week beginning on September 1st, with reservations opening up soon (Disney hasn’t announced when exactly the reservations will open).

Minnie Vans Return Early to Disney World

Disney previously announced that Minnie Vans would return on June 29th. However, we learned that Minnie Vans are already operating in Disney World as a sort of soft reopening.

We checked the Lyft app (because Minnie Vans are operated by the Lyft company), and Minnie Vans came up as an option for several trips that we looked at. Disney hasn’t made an official announcement about their early return, but if you want to take a ride in these vans, be sure to check the Lyft app to see if they’re available.

Big Changes at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

A LOT is happening at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. First, the updated Finding Nemo show, Finding NemoThe Big Blue…And Beyondopened early! We caught a media preview of the show on Saturday, and then Disney opened up the theater for several other shows later that day — its initial reopening date was supposed to be a few days later.

New ‘Finding Nemo’ show

Currently, showtimes are every day at  10:30AM, 11:30AM, 12:30PM, 2:30PM, 3:30PM, and 4:30PM. But be sure to check the show’s schedule on the My Disney Experience app to double-check those times if you’re wanting to catch it (because we have seen a few cancelations in the last couple of days).

But that’s not the only thing that happened early at Animal Kingdom. The Mickey and Minnie meet and greet at Adventurer’s Outpost was supposed to reopen on June 19th, but we got to see Mickey and Minnie there on June 14th, when it reopened five days early!  So if you want to meet Mickey and Minnie in their safari costumes, check it out.

They’re back!

There is a Lightning Lane entrance (although it wasn’t open at the time and will likely not open until June 19th), so if you purchase Disney Genie+, you should be able to book that for the meet and greet.

Disney Stock Hits an All-Time Low for 2022

Times are hard for a lot of companies, and The Walt Disney Company recently took a hit with its stock prices. We’ve seen those prices decline since the beginning of the year, and they continued to drop until they hit an all-time low for 2022 this week.

As of June 13th, The Walt Disney Company stock was trading at around $95.71. Although we can’t definitively say why, this may be due to the market situation since other companies are also reporting low stock prices.

Disney Delays Job Relocations

Amid the political controversy involving Disney speaking out against Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ retaliatory legislation, the company has delayed its big move from California to Florida. Disney currently has plans to move over 2,000 jobs from California to Orlando to take advantage of the tax breaks there, but those plans have been pushed back almost 4 years to 2026.

The new campus in Florida is called Lake Nona, which was originally supposed to open this year, in December. Disney has not said that the delay is specifically in response to the political tensions in Florida; instead, they cited construction delays as the main reason for the change.

Of course, there is a LOT of other big news happening with Disney, so if you want to learn more, be sure to check out the other big stories, like how COVID-19 testing requirements are changing for international travel. You can also learn about a new hotel deal for Disney World annual passholders!

  1. This site likes to hype Victoria and Alberts and I will agree it is amazing. However, it is expensive. I mean 4 people with drinks and tip around $2000 ballpark. I could get a week+ at the Buena Vista Palace for that and kick it by the pool for free for that money- Jus sayin
