It’s been a ROUGH start to 2022 for Disney World.
The year started off with some major holiday crowds leading to long wait times across the parks, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has been down for DAYS on and off over the past few weeks, and several supply issues are leaving guests disappointed at some of Disney World’s priciest stores. And, it looks like Disney’s luck hasn’t changed just yet!
As part of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, a brand new dining experience was introduced at California Grill in Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The restaurant is traditionally only open for dinner, but when we opened up the My Disney Experience app today received a pop-up notification stating that “California Grill is unavailable for dining tonight.”
It’s unclear exactly what could be the cause for this unexpected closure, but this does mean that all current reservations will be canceled and no additional ones can be made for today, January 11th.
It’s not often that Disney World cancels dining reservations for guests, however. The last time that we saw major cancellations was when Disney World closed the parks for the COVID-19 pandemic and announced that they would cancel all current dining and special experience reservations as a result of limited capacity, through the end of 2020.
Other restaurants in Disney’s Contemporary Resort do remain open as of this writing, so guests looking for another dining option can check availability at Steakhouse 71 and Chef Mickey’s, or stop by Contempo Cafe for a bite.
Currently, California Grill is only expected to be unavailable for dining today, but we’ll continue to keep an eye out for updates so be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for the latest.
UPDATE: According to the My Disney Experience app, California Grill will reopen for guests on January 12th, 2022. Select reservations are still available for booking at this time.
