The Lightsaber You Want the MOST is the One You Can’t Buy in Disney World

We’re learning a lot about the new Star Wars hotel that’s opening next year in Disney World.

Today we got a closer look at the food onboard, the hotel rooms, and the experiences that guests can have during their stay. Now we’re taking a closer look at the lightsaber experience onboard and answering one very important question: can you take home a REAL lightsaber after your visit?

We learned recently about a real-life lightsaber that’s going to be on board the Galactic Starcruiser.

This lightsaber looks just like the ones used in the Star Wars films, and our inner Jedi is dying to know if we can take one home. Unfortunately, according to IGN, these lightsabers will not be for sale at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. Guests will also not be able to use them, as they’re only used by the performers on board.

While you can’t play with the real lightsaber, you will find all kinds of interactive experiences to choose from on board the Galactic Starcruiser. You can head to the Bridge to learn to fly the ship, interact with characters to influence the storyline onboard, and (one of the most exciting things) train with a lightsaber (just not the real one).

All guests ages 7 and up will get the opportunity to train. According to IGN, the training has guests block lasers from a stationary training robot. It gets more difficult over time, and towards the end “it ramps up to Jedi level where you’re forced to block attacks without even seeing the lasers.”

IGN compared the lightsabers you use to Force FX lightsabers but just a little shorter. These lightsabers will also not be for sale, so you won’t be able to take your new weapon home with you.

You might find some other lightsabers in the hotel’s gift shop, and of course, there are lightsabers for sale in Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios. Remember that guests at the hotel will take a trip to Galaxy’s Edge, so you can always pick one up while you’re there. (Head to Savi’s Workshop to build your own or to Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities to find lightsabers of various Star Wars characters.)
