PHOTOS: Step-By-Step Guide to Purchasing Disney Genie+

The paid replacement for FastPass+, Disney Genie, is currently available at Walt Disney World!

The service is part of a brand new feature that can be found directly in the My Disney Experience app and helps you plan your day at Disney World by letting you pick your priorities, join virtual queues, offering a personal assistant, and more. And, if you’re hoping to get back to “skipping the line” at popular attractions throughout all four parks, that’s part of the app too!

Disney Genie+ is one of TWO new ways to bypass the standby line, but unlike FastPass+ (which has been retired), guests must pay to take advantage of the service. So, for $15 per day, per person, Disney Genie+ will let you book Lightning Lane access (aka the old FastPass lane) for select attractions at Disney World throughout the day.

Purchasing Disney Genie+

In Walt Disney World, there is one way to purchase Disney Genie+, and that is day-of, subject to availability, starting on June 8th, 2022.

The first thing you’ll want to do is be sure that your My Disney Experience app is updated to the most recent version. You’ll know that yours is up-to-date because you’ll see the new Disney Genie service as an option on your home page when you open the app!

You’ll then want to pull up the Disney Genie Service feature in the app and select “Get Disney Genie+ Service.” And, that’s where you’ll be able to select those in your party that you’d like to purchase Genie+ for (note that you do NOT need to purchase it for everyone that is visiting the park with you that day).

From there you’ll confirm your party and then be led to a confirmation screen to confirm the pricing (which is actually $15.98 total per person due to tax) and contact information.

And, once. you hit “Purchase” you’ll be set to book your first Genie+ Lightning Lane selection as early as 7AM on the same day as your visit!

Making a Genie+ Lightning Lane Selection

To book your first Genie+ Lightning Lane Selection, you’ll need to navigate to the “Tip Board” in the new Genie feature in the My Disney Experience app. Here you’ll see a list of Lightning Lane return times for the park that you have a Park Pass Reservation for that day.

All you need to do is click “Book Experience” on the Lightning Lane that you’d like and then confirm your party to book!

Previously, Disney had shared that guests who select a Genie+ Lightning Lane return time that is more than 120 minutes (2 hours) away would be able to select a second Lightning Lane for earlier in the day. And, while this is still true, we’ve now learned from using the app that you’ll need to wait 120 minutes to make the next selection (regardless of what time the other Lightning Lane reservation is for).

So, for example, when we made our first Genie+ Lightning Lane selection at 7AM, we selected a return time at a ride that was at 12:45PM on the same day. And, because of the 120-minute rule, we now had to wait until 11AM (which is 2 hours after the park opens) to make a second Lightning Lane selection with Genie+ and could not “skip the line” at any attractions earlier than that.

Keep in mind that, if you’re looking to skip the lines at select high-demand attractions, you’ll need to look into the Individual Attraction Selection option, which allows you to pay a separate amount per ride. However, note that purchasing Individual Attraction Selections does NOT require that you buy Disney Genie+ separately.

  1. I am a little annoyed with the 120 minute rule. I feel like that should have been explained on the front end instead of everyone learning this today. You are loosing 2 hours for a paid service.
