Why Disney Genie+ Will Cost You More Than You Thought

Disney Genie officially launched in Disney World in 2021 bringing new planning features and TWO new paid ways to “skip the lines” at popular attractions throughout the parks.

Since then, we’ve brought you a look at all the FREE tools, as well as everything you need to know about purchasing access to new Lightning Lanes (aka the old FastPass lanes) with Disney Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selections. And, if you’re planning to buy these services during your trip there’s one BIG thing you’ll want to note when finalizing your budget.

Disney Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selection have flexible pricing meaning that the price of the service varies depending on the demand for that day. We’ve seen Genie+ fluctuate between $15 and $35 and it’s possible this price could go up in the future.

Individual Attraction Selections vary in price per person, per ride depending on the attraction, date, and park (we’ve seen these range from $7 to $25 in its initial rollout). But, one thing that you may not have realized is that tax will be added to the purchase.

So, this means that if Disney Genie+ is $15 for the day, it is actually going to cost you $15.98 per person, per day.

This also applies to Individual Attraction Selections.

So, if you’re traveling with a group, you’ll want to keep in mind that the cost of Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selections is per person. The more people that are in your group, the more in taxes you’ll have to pay.

  1. After 30 trips since 1994, this spring one will be our last. Our son was married there in 2000. It’s no longer what Walt would have wanted… for all families to be able to experience. We will not pay extra for rides. Our money will be well spent on other places. To all who continue to find it “magical”, congrats. We’ve had enough.

    1. Totally agree. We used to be annual pass holders. Have made numerous trips. Genie+ is a horrid idea. Most people won’t (can’t) forgo the extra expense this forcing more people into stand-by. This all has the semblance of E ticket rides that Walt abolished years ago. Disney leadership needs to rethink this

  2. I MAY use lightning lane for Hollywood studios and magic kingdom, but not every day. Probably will NEVER pay extra for a ride.
