Sooo, Marvel REALLY did just go there with some major plot reveals and wild twists in the latest episode of Loki!

And, if you haven’t watched it, you’re going to want to stop what you’re doing now to find out everything that happened in episode 4. But, if you’re ready to do a deep dive on Loki, these are the 5 biggest theories you need to know from this past week’s episode!

Who Exactly IS Sylvie?

There had been some debate up until this point on whether Sylvie would be another form of Loki from the Multiverse or the Enchantress. And, it seems like we’ve definitely got a character who is a mixture of both! Episode 4 dives into the fact that Sylvie did, in fact, have childhood on Asgard as she was born the Goddess of Mischief. However, her existence became a “nexus event,” which supposedly (emphasis on the uncertainty here) caused the Sacred Timeline to go off course.

After Ravonna Renslayer in her Hunter days attempts to take Sylvie into custody, the Goddess of Mischief escapes and is forced to hop around to find a place to stay. In most locations, she continued to make nexus events occur, until she realized that hiding in apocalypses were the only time-frames she couldn’t be detected. From there, she was able to teach herself her newer powers that more resemble the Enchantress.

Still, that has us begging the question…why WAS Sylvie a nexus event? She wasn’t taken by the TVA until she was around 8 or 9 years old. That means she had plenty of time to be seen as an issue by the TVA up until that moment. When Sylvie asks Ravonna about the situation, the judge responds that she doesn’t remember why she was previously seen as a nexus event in her childhood.

But, we think that whoever is in charge of the TVA could have seen the events that Sylvie would cause in the future. And, in order to preserve the Sacred Timeline they created, Sylvie had to be sacrificed in the process. If she all of a sudden stopped causing nexus events, the TVA may have assumed that she died after she escaped (since she was only a child). Clearly, though, Sylvie was able to gain power that was strong enough to possibly unravel the entire TVA through her own nexus event distractions.

So, What Nexus Event Happened in This Episode?

Speaking of nexus events, there was a MAJOR one that occurred in this week’s episode! While apocalypses have usually been seen as a safe place to stay, a massive branch in the timeline wasn’t caused by an event — it was caused by feelings and emotions. Even if Loki and Sylvie are both technically versions of Loki, they are still each unique individuals. Regardless, though, their feelings for one another literally caused complete chaos across the multiverses when they were on Lamentis.

Their interactions and emotional connection created a branch in the sacred timeline that was so strong, it could have had a permanent effect on the Sacred Timeline if the TVA hadn’t stopped it. And, the rate and angle that the branch grew would have quickly passed the red lines without the ability to be reset.

Despite the major implications caused by their romance, Loki and Sylvie’s relationship has a much more important meaning. Even though Loki is arrogant and egotistical, he struggles with feeling alone, as conveyed by his time loop with Sif. In that time loop, he is reminded that he is alone over and over again, before Loki himself admits feeling that way his whole life.

Since Sylvie is technically a version of Loki, we do get to see a kind of self-love in their relationship. But, Sylvie is her own person as well, so he’s able to find love with someone who would be able to understand his past experiences and feelings the most.

Not Sweet Mobius!

We know that Mobius disappearing like that might seem more permanent than not, but we have a feeling his “pruning” doesn’t mean that he’s gone forever. If Loki was transported to a different reality of sorts after being erased (more on that soon), there’s quite the possibility that the same fate could be in store for Mobius. Instead, though, Mobius may be in a time loop of his own as TVA agents are possibly reset.

Agents could be almost sent back to a “factory resetting” in order to keep everyone in check, since they are actually variants. There could be past versions of himself that were reset time and time again. He may have even figured out that there was something off with the TVA previously, as Ravonna seems very defensive when Mobius questions her.

Mobius may just currently be staying in a TVA cell, waiting to be reset to an obedient version of himself. So, there’s going to have to be a moment where Loki can remind Mobius that he was once a real person again. And, we just hope that means Mobius ends Loki on a jet ski somewhere nice, far away from the TVA!

Where in the Multiverse Is LOKI…Er, LOKIS?!

After Loki was erased, our mouths DROPPED open! But, in the post-credits scene, we discovered that Loki woke up in a sort of empty wasteland. It looks an awful lot like a destroyed New York City with the Avengers Tower crumbling in the background. Whether this is just a lock-up location for Lokis or a crumbling branch where Loki won the Battle of New York, it can’t be denied that there is something very important going on.

When Loki wakes up, he sees various versions of himself, ranging from animal to child. These “variants” include Boastful Loki, Kid Loki, Classic Loki, and an alligator with Loki’s helmet dubbed Lizard Loki (according to fans on the internet).

An older version of Loki exists with Classic Loki, as he dons Loki’s comic book costume (similar to those we have seen in WandaVision). Boastful Loki has a hammer similar to Mjolnir, while Lizard Loki is chilling with his fancy golden horns in the arms of Kid Loki. And, you KNOW we’ve been talking about how the Young Avengers could be coming to fruition in the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon.

Marvel has basically already set up all the characters we need with Tommy and Billy Maximoff in WandaVision, Eli Bradley in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Kate Bishop in Hawkeye, Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp, Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel, and now Kid Loki in Loki. We aren’t sure if that means we will get a film or series arc, but we couldn’t be more excited about the possibility of Young Avengers.

On the other hand, it’s important to note that there was a HUGE branch in the timeline when Loki and Sylvie interacted. So, now that Loki has found three more versions of himself, their relationships could end up being the cataclysmic event that breaks the TVA as we know it.

Everything’s Coming Up Kang…and Maybe Another Loki Too

Well, the cat is out of the bag that the Time Keepers most certainly do not exist. They are just animatronics set up as the “Wizard of Oz” facade the TVA has been hiding behind closed doors. So, who is running the TVA instead? We are having so many signs point towards Kang the Conqueror. The time traveler’s occupational hazard could clearly be disruptions in timelines or others discovering his secrets along the way.

So, Kang could have set up the TVA to keep HIS Sacred Timeline intact (not the entire universe’s, like he’s made it seem like) with his one true love as the head of the bureaucracy he’s created. Kang would have placed Ravonna Renslayer as the Judge, perhaps after he fell in love with her. We haven’t seen how she gained her position of power at the TVA, so that’s yet another sign pointing to Kang’s involvement!
