We’re taking off our Disney Journalist hats and putting on our Disney Imagineer hats for this post, friends!

The Disney Parks already come up INCREDIBLE ideas for lands and attractions, but while they hop onto expansive projects (ahem, the entire EPCOT transformation), a few attractions are left behind in the midst of the excitement.
And it may come as no surprise that we’ve got some pretty spectacular ideas about what Disney World rides REALLY need an overhaul (and soon)!
Gran Fiesta Tour
Have you ever walked into a ride and thought to yourself, “I have the perfect idea” as you’re admiring it? That’s totally how we feel about the Gran Fiesta Tour. While we have a special place in our hearts for the original, we could absolutely see the ride being re-themed with a Coco narrative.

Coco has already started to pop up around EPCOT’s Mexico Pavilion, as a puppeteer moves around a dancing Miguel outside the pavilion, and the inside of the pyramid features Day of the Day memorabilia and an ofrenda from the film.

Lately, there have been quite a few issues with the Gran Fiesta Tour that make us wonder why Disney hasn’t opted for something new and exciting. The Donald, Panchito, and José animatronics have frequently disappeared from the stage. Instead of using plants, sombreros, and cardboard cut-outs to hide wherever the Three Caballeros have disappeared (we bet they’re taking well-needed siestas), Disney could really revamp the attraction to turn it from a ride with little to no wait into a hot spot in the Mexico Pavilion.

The attraction itself wouldn’t have to see changes to the actual boat ride system, if it were fixed up as a Coco storyline. Instead the theming could be switched around so guests can traverse between the Land of the Living and Land of the Dead, just like Miguel! The stage could be the scene where Hector and Miguel sing together, while the screens could easily be used for updated animation sequences from Coco.

The Mexico Pavilion itself is already very popular as there are usually long lines to enter the pyramid or head to La Cava del Tequila and San Angel Inn. A Coco attraction would allow the pavilion to feature more merchandise from the film as well as to incorporate themed menu items at both restaurants.
Tomorrowland Speedway OR Test Track
The Tomorrowland Speedway has been around for a LONG time, but with nothing new to offer (other than the renewed smell of gasoline each time you pass). Now that TRON construction is occurring right next door, it would be the perfect opportunity to go ahead and give the Tomorrowland Speedway some fixing up.

What could the theme be? Well, Disney already has a racing themed attraction in its hit Wreck-It Ralph films. Tomorrowland would be the perfect spot to bring the video game’s attraction to life as guests cruise through Sugar Rush Racers. There could be massive benefit to see the attraction overhauled to have a similar style to Radiator Springs Racers in Disneyland’s Cars Land, where guests race against each other.

OR: Test Track would be a prime location for more of a virtual reality, simulator-like attraction where the digital world from both films could be incorporated (Slaughter Race, anyone?). Although it only semi-recently received a huge refurb (as in almost a decade ago in 2012), some fans still think there’s something missing from Test Track. Sugar Rush Racers would be a VERY fun theme to lay over the ride.

Guests could go through an “arcade” queue to build their own racecar and see if theirs would beat other “gamers.” There could even be mobile incorporations, as Disney could easily release an app where you actually get to play the game (something like Mario Kart). Disney actually used to have a Sugar Rush Racers computer game, so the translation wouldn’t be something entirely new!

The track wouldn’t have to be changed, other than seeing an overhaul toward the Sugar Rush Video Game. When Disney did this back in 2012, the current ride-through only took them a timeframe of April to December. It need not be a long refurbishment if Disney decided to go down a new route for the attraction. The theme layover would allow both the queue and ride to have interactive elements that bring guests directly into the Wreck-It Ralph universe.

Honestly, we could see Disney taking a few notes from Universal as Super Nintendo World has brought Mario Kart to life with a new attraction. And we would be HYPED to go on a Sugar Rush Racers attraction and step into the coolest video game this side of Litwak’s Arcade.
Space Mountain
Okay, okay — hear us out. While we by no means want a permanent re-theme of Space Mountain, we’d love to see a fun seasonal change here. If you’ve been to Disneyland and traveled to a galaxy far, far away on the seasonal Hyperspace Mountain, you’ll know that the projection work is INCREDIBLE. Disney World could benefit from adding the Star Wars overlay seasonally to Magic Kingdom! Space Mountain is still a popular E-ticket attraction, but it’s slightly outdated when it comes to space exploration.

Now that there’s a huge emphasis in the Disney company on Star Wars content, it would only make sense to make Space Mountain into Hyperspace Mountain on both coasts. All Disney would need to do is add in different projections with the famous soundtrack from the films. And BOOM! You’ve got the Death Star appearing in the ride in time with “The Imperial March” or the finale of the attraction with the “Throne Room” theme in the background.

Disney, should our people call your people? Can we get the ball rolling on Hyperspace Mountain ASAP?
Stitch’s Great Escape
It feels like it’s been FOREVER since something really was happening at the empty Stitch’s Great Escape location. We’ve hoped time and time again for something new to appear, but it’s just not happening. Well, we think those days should be over! And we’ve get JUST the theme to pull people into the attraction!

Now that Disney has made “The Happy Ride with Baymax” in Tokyo Disneyland, we could easily see a Big Hero 6-themed ride coming to Disney World’s Tomorrowland as well. While a similar ride to Tokyo’s version could be a possibility, maybe Disney World could instead allow guests to “build” their own hero suits to soar through San Fransokyo and face off against Yokai to save the city from microbots.

It would be a welcome experience to replace Stitch’s Great Escape, especially since Disney doesn’t seem to have any plans for the space just yet.
Of course, we can’t say for sure if Disney will ever take up our offer to make these rides a reality, but we’ve got our fingers crossed that they possibly come in a NEW phase of construction (behind the list of other projects in the works). And you can stay tuned with All Ears for more exciting Disney entertainment and news coming your way!

I love the Grand Fiesta Tour, so would be sad to see it go to Coco, but also enjoy that film, so torn.
Disagree about Space Mountain. Let’s leave Star Wars in Hollywood Studios PLEASE!
Really hope they do something great in Dinoland! Jester’s and Hesters has great backstory and just really needs refresh, especially since taking out the coaster ride.
Journey into Imagination gets my vote for the ride most in need of a refurb. I’d love to see an updated version of the original ride, but an update to an Inside Out themed ride (as long as it included Figment) would even be okay.
Totally agree! Love the attraction but needs refresh.
The Baymax ride looks like Alien Swirling Saucers, one of the worst rides in Walt Disney World. Another one isn’t needed.
I was thinking the same thing. For some reason I like To-Mator, but Alien Swirling Saucers…noooooooooooooooooooooooo
They also need Moana and Tangled rides at the parks. Maybe like a tower climb or a ride like Winnie the Pooh for a tangled ride, but instead of the honey pots, we ride in the frying pan. For a Moana ride, we ride a boat through the ocean along with Maui and Moana on their journeys. The Moana ride would be probably at Epcot, and the Tangled ride could be at Magic Kingdom
I have a better idea:
A 5 year/20 attraction minimum per coast, whichever is greater ban on ip based attractions. Meaning we would get at least 20 new non ip based attractions. And rethemes cannot be ip based during this time, but rethemes do not get to count toward the 20 attraction minimum.
That sounds like……creativity!
It’s actually shocking that with all of the “going green” taking place, that they haven’t done something to change the Tomorrowland Speedway already. What in the world are they thinking there?
I’ve suggested numerous times on this forum that Speedway should be updated to use little Tesla roadsters, powered by induction in the roadway and utilizing automated driving technologies. So simple. And great to get a named sponsor for the attraction.
