Everything We Know About the Next Phase of Marvel Movies

The next phase of Marvel is going to be BIG. From brand new heroes and villains to over 25 series and films in the works (and those are only the ones that have already been announced), Marvel’s going all out with its next story arc.

Captain America – The Avengers

But this phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is like no other, since the franchise is branching out to both theatrical releases and streaming service debuts on Disney+! All the upcoming content will be one piece of the MCU puzzle, so it’s crucial for fans to watch EVERY bit of Marvel entertainment to connect the dots.

Still, it’s pretty hard for us to keep up with everything on our grocery lists, let alone each Marvel show and film that’s been announced so far. That’s why we’re breaking down ALL the MCU series and movies you’ll be able to watch in Phase 4 and beyond!

WandaVision

Can you believe that we’re almost at the end of this season of WandaVision? As we wrap up what’s happening in the WestView anomaly, we have been WAY too excited to see how WandaVision will set up the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. In fact, the show could even reveal our next big bad in the remaining episodes, similar to how the last Marvel phases hinted at Thanos’s involvement all along.

Wanda has already been confirmed to return in the upcoming Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness movie and Spider-Man 3 as Doctor Strange’s new apprentice after the events of WandaVision. There are obviously a LOT of big reveals about the MCU in store for fans during the show’s grand finale!

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

After WandaVision has completed its run on Disney+, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will debut on March 19th. The show takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame to follow Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes as they go on a global adventure. Past characters will also be returning like James Rhodes, Helmut Zemo, and Sharon Carter.

Clearly, the casting makes references to Captain America and Hydra now that Sam and Bucky are taking over the helm for Cap.

Loki

If you’ve been missing the God of Mischief, you’ll be thrilled to know that Loki will be making his triumphant return in a series of his own! Loki will appear on Disney+ in May 2021 to follow the character after he steals the tesseract during Avengers: Endgame and journeys down an alternate timeline.

Since many of the events that allow Loki to grow as a character technically haven’t happened yet to him at this point, he will have a very different (and more villainous) outlook on life. The series will clearly have some connection to a multiverse of realities now that Loki has taken a turn down an alternate timeline of events!

Black Widow

If fans are anticipating one film this phase, it’s DEFINITELY Black Widow. Originally, the film was supposed to be released in 2020, but the pandemic cause it to be delayed to February 12, 2021 and later to May 7, 2021. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow was killed off, so the film is more of a prequel of sorts.

Black Widow @Marvel

It will take place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War to dive into Natasha’s life outside of the Avengers and how she still has ties to her spy past.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

When Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings debuts on July 9, 2021, it will be the first Asian-led superhero movie. And, we are HYPED! Shang-Chi happens to be a master of wushu combat, both unarmed and with weapons. And, you might recognize the Ten Rings as the group that captured Tony Stark previously.

There haven’t been too many details released about the film, but we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop with any news about Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings!

What If…?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if the Marvel Cinematic Universe had ended up completely different? When What If…? debuts on Disney+ this summer, the animated series will show us various multiverses that include Peggy Carter as Captain Britain, among others. It will also be Chadwick Boseman’s last performance as he voices T’Challa one final time.

Hawkeye

Set to be released in late 2021, Hawkeye will follow Clint Barton as he trains Kate Bishop, who is the next Hawkeye. There hasn’t been a lot of news about the series as of late since filming was put on hold for a prolonged time. However, Hailee Steinfeld has been cast as Kate Bishop, which could pave the way for a Young Avengers film.

©Disney

Bishop is only one part of the Young Avengers team, along with Wiccan and Speed (Wanda’s twins) and Stinger (Cassie Lang, who is Ant-Man’s daughter) who have already begun to appear in the MCU.

Ms. Marvel

Based on the 16 year old Muslim Pakistani-American character Kamala Khan from Jersey City, Ms. Marvel will be groundbreaking when it premieres in late 2021. Newcomer Imon Vellani has been casted as Khan, who writes superhero fan fiction of characters like Captain Marvel before she gains shape-shifting powers.

Additionally, actress Laurel Marsden will play the role of Zoe Zimmer, joining Vellani in the series.

Eternals

Along with many other Marvel films, The Eternals was delayed to a new premiere date of November 5th, 2021. The Eternals are an immortal group of powerful beings created by the Celestials who have helped shape Earth and its civilizations. Taking place after Avengers: Endgame, the film will follow the Eternals as they reunite to protect humanity from their evil counterparts, the Deviants.

We’ve seen a little bit of what the world has been like after the re-materializing of people lost during the Snap in WandaVision. But, The Eternals may continue to world-build this new era of the earth after Thanos changed everything.

Spider-Man 3

Perhaps one of the MOST highly anticipated films that will be arriving in the next phase of Marvel, Spider-Man 3 will make its debut on December 17, 2021. The film is rumored to continue the trend of using “home” in its title by premiering as Spider-Man: Homeworlds (although there is no confirmation this is true yet). However, it would make sense, since Marvel has confirmed that the movie will dive into an array of unleashed multiverses with past actors and characters.

©Marvel

Spider-Man 3 is set to immediately start after the events of the last film as Peter Parker’s identity was revealed to the world. The film will follow Parker as he has to go up against villains from across the multiverses, possibly with the help of Andrew Garfield and Toby McGuire as it has also been rumored they will reprise their previous Spider-Man roles.

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness

When we think about the MCU, we usually think of films and series with a lot of action and heart. But, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will be Marvel’s first “horror” movie as it creeps into the darker corners of the multiverse on March 25th, 2022. Doctor Strange will continue to do research on the Time Stone in his property with Wanda by his side.

©Marvel Studios

After he mentors Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3 apparently, there is a huge likelihood he will have to explore the multiverse and clean up the mess of it being ripped open.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Now that Thor has been hanging around the Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Love and Thunder will appear like another crossover of sorts when it debuts on May 6th, 2022. We’ve already seen various Guardians actors on set of the film as past Thor characters return once againm too. Jane Foster will even adopt the title as the new Thor, as the Valkyrie looks for a new queen to rule Asgard alongside her.

Christian Bale has been confirmed as Gorr the God Butcher, the newest villain that Thor will have to face up against.

Black Panther 2

After Chadwick Boseman passed away, many fans wondered about the state of the next Black Panther movie. And, in honor of his memory, Marvel has stated that they will not be recasting the character of King T’Challa. Instead, the film will further explore the world of Wakanda and its characters when it arrives in theaters on July 8th, 2022.

Black Panther – Infinity War

We may even see T’Challa’s younger sister, Shuri, take up the title of the next Black Panther in the next installment!

She-Hulk

It’s about time we got another Hulk film! This time around, though, the series will be following a new lady Hulk. Tatiana Maslany will play the lead role of Jennifer Walters, who is Bruce Banner’s cousin. And, yes, that means that Mark Ruffalo is set to reprise his role, too, when the show arrives in 2022!

Disney+ She Hulk ©Disney

In the comics, she gains the powers of She-Hulk when she receives a blood transfusion from Banner. But her powers are a bit more predictable as she has control over her alter ego. Ginger Gonzaga will be playing Jennifer Walters’ best friend, as Tom Roth arrives on scene as the supervillain Abomination!

Captain Marvel 2

This season of WandaVision has already been hinting about what’s to come in the next Captain Marvel movie! Now that Monica Rambeau has become Spectrum, the character will stand alongside Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel 2, scheduled for a November 11, 2022 release. Kamala Khan will also be featured as Ms. Marvel, after she becomes a part of the MCU. Zawe Ashton has been casted as the villain, although we aren’t sure exactly who she will portray yet.

Captain Marvel – Captain Marvel

There is still plenty of other Marvel entertainment that will debut over the next few years as well, even if we don’t have too many details about them just yet!
