Earlier this year, Chadwick Boseman passed away at the age of 43 following a battle with colon cancer.

Boseman appeared in dozens of film and television projects throughout his career, but he was best known for his role as Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Disney has confirmed that they do not intend to recast T’Challa in the upcoming Black Panther sequel. T’Challa will be given a sendoff in the upcoming What If…? series heading to Disney+, which will feature Boseman’s final performance, as reported by Insider.

What If…? is an animated anthology show based on the Marvel comic series of the same name. It will follow Jeffrey Wright’s Uatu the Watcher who will serve as the narrator as he travels through various alternate realities that will show what the Marvel Cinematic Universe would look like if certain events played out differently.

So far, only two storylines for the series are confirmed. One involves Peggy Carter taking the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers and becoming Captain Carter. And the other will have T’Challa become Star-Lord instead of Peter Quill.

The series’ trailer shows Yondu kidnapping T’Challa from Wakanda and offering him the chance to explore multiple worlds instead of just Earth. A fully-grown T’Challa is then shown dressed as Star-Lord.

As with many other Marvel characters in the series, Boseman will reprise his role as T’Challa, voicing him in the episode. What If…? is currently set to premiere in Summer 2021. This will mark Boseman’s final performance, as he passed away in August 2020 following a battle with colon cancer.
