Florida’s Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force has been meeting several times a week to discuss the re-opening of the county, which includes the major Orlando theme parks, including the majority of Walt Disney World Resort.

One of the members of the task force is Thomas Mazloum, senior vice president of Walt Disney World Resorts and Transportation Operations. In today’s meeting Mazloum was asked about the availability of hotel reservations in July, and commented on what it could mean for the re-opening of Walt Disney World.
Starting last week, Disney World began only accepting hotel reservations for July 1st and later. When asked about this at this morning’s task force meeting, Mazloum noted that just because there are reservations open in July does not mean the parks will re-open in July.

To that note, Mazloum re-iterated that, at this time, Disney World has no news to report in regards to a re-opening date. He did comment that they will allow data and the government to guide in planning out their re-opening.
When asked on the recent re-opening of Shanghai Disneyland, Mazloum did comment that they were “encouraged” by what they saw from Shanghai, echoing many of the same sentiments expressed by Walt Disney Company CEO, Bob Chapek. Nevertheless, he re-iterated that these are “first steps”, and that the company would continue to see how things go going forward.

While the theme parks and hotels for Walt Disney World Resort have not given a re-opening date at this time, the dining and retail shopping center, Disney Springs, will begin a gradual re-opening of third-party locations starting on May 20th. While a handful of restaurants have confirmed re-opening on May 20th, a far larger assortment now has reservations available starting June 1st on the MyDisneyExperience app.
