A Magic Kingdom Tradition That Has Continued During the Park’s Closure

Walt Disney World has been closed for the last few weeks, which means the Magic Kingdom has been a lot quieter than normal. There have been no fireworks, no parades… but one tradition still endures.

Disney Security, the unsung heroes of the Disney Cast, have remained at the park during the closure and, according to Josh D’Amaro’s Instagram, they have been carrying on the flag raising ceremony every day since.

The flagpole on Main Street USA is one of the few genuine American flags in the Magic Kingdom. The rest are facsimiles, convincing from a distance, but lacking critical details like the correct number of stars and stripes.

As the US has laws regarding the appropriate display of the flag in public spaces like Disney World, deliberately leaving out a few stars lets Disney leave the flag up year round. But when it comes to the real flag, Disney doesn’t mess around. It’s comforting to know that one gesture, no matter how small, continues to endure in this era of uncertainty.

You can watch a video of the ceremony here. Stay tuned to All Ears for more ways to keep the magic going at home.
