New Year’s Eve News: Magic Kingdom Has Closed due to Capacity

This will come as very little surprise after our little foray into Magic Kingdom crowds last night…

People… people everywhere.

… but just a few minutes ago Magic Kingdom closed due to capacity. New Year’s Eve crowds are living their best (most snuggled up to one another) lives in the Most Magical Place on Earth, and the park is unlikely to reopen to new guests as the day progresses.

Last night’s crowds attempt to return to the Transportation and Ticket Center via bus.

If you’re at Walt Disney World and hoping to join the throngs in Magic Kingdom today, pay attention to your My Disney Experience app, where park closure alerts are sent in real time. And note: it’s possible other parks could also close today, so keep checking for those alerts.

Have you ever been in the park when it closed for capacity? Let us know just how wild it was in the comments below.

  1. We took the grandkids to Disney for New Year’s a few years ago. Magic Kingdom had closed at 9:00 in the morning so we went to Epcot. Never again! We could not move because of the huge crowds. It took us an hour to get through the crowd to catch a bus back to our hotel. We missed the fireworks and it was not a fun experience.

  2. Yes…New Year’s Eve 1998….all parks closed due to capacity..we were at Epcot the last to close. They ran out of food and drinks. We did not see the firework finale due to trying to beat the crowd to transportation. We are so glad we did because guests did not fully get back to hotels until 8:30 am New Year’s Day….heard that some went ahead and walked back because it was faster. Everyone had the same idea of beating the Y2K celebration…so we thought….🤣🤣

  3. For many years at Disneyland in so Ca us to go to the park on New Year’s Eve the best party ever in the park love it hanging out with the family and friends it a time I we’ll remember my whole life had a blast

  4. I was there today. First FP+ at 0840, left after lunch at 145pm and it was insanely crowded. Choke points near haunted Mansion. 75 min wait for Small World. Fast past queuing lines and chaos I’m the emporium. Supposed to get worse near fireworks time. WOW
