For a relatively young park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom has certainly seen its share of changes since it opened April, 1998. Just a few include….
Simply name changes. Gorilla Falls to Pangani Exploration Trail and Countown to Extinction to Dinosaur.
Animals were transitioned elsewhere: Capybara, Gunther’s Dik-dik and the Two-Toed sloth, to name a few.
The original outdoor theatre that once housed Journey into the Jungle Book and Tarzan Rocks became enclosed and now is the home for Finding Nemo the Musical.
One entire land disappeared, Camp Minnie-Mickey to be replaced by Avatar in the future.
So finding a Yesterday photo of Animal Kingdom wasn’t too hard…
Here is a photo of the walk around “artimals”. These lovely colorful creatures simply walked around the Discovery Island area back in the day. At one time they were a mini-parade called “March of the Artimals“. Some of the costumes became part of Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade. However since that parade ended, I haven’t seen these artimals anywhere around.
Here is a photo I took back in 1999:
