Why Every Magic Kingdom Fan Is Dreading July 6th

One of the most classic rides in Magic Kingdom is changing…in a HUGE way.

Carousel of Progress

That’s right. Carousel of Progress in Tomorrowland is getting a complete overhaul with new scenes, an additional scene with a Walt Disney animatronic, and more. In order for that to happen, though, the ride has to close. And it’s closing SOON.

Carousel of Progress will officially close on July 6th, so if you want to ride the attraction as is, the last day to do so will be on July 5th. The ride is not set to reopen until 2027, so you have about one month to go for one last slow spin on the longest-running stage show in American theater history.

Once the ride reopens, it will be transformed with new scenes, including an opening scene featuring a Walt Disney animatronic, similar to the animatronic used in Disneyland’s Walt Disney: A Magical Life. You can also expect to see a ton of Easter eggs in that new scene.

However, the ride’s other scenes will also change. The ride will start in the 1960s, with the family having just returned from the World’s Fair. In that scene, the son will be watching the moon landing. The next scene will take place in the 1980s, so expect big hair and bright clothes with Uncle Orville talking about a company he invested all his savings in.

Then it’s off to the 1990s with lots of single-use appliances and the Internet. The final scene will take us into a possible future.

So, if you have nostalgia for theversion of the ride that you probably grew up with, you have about one month to experience it for the last time before it changes forever.

We’ll keep an eye out for more updates in Disney World, so check back with AllEars again soon for more.
