Refurbishments and closures are a fact of life in Walt Disney World. Rides, shows, and attractions are often closed for refreshes, repairs, and technological upgrades, or to be replaced entirely. In fact, it’s rare to have a day when EVERY attraction at the resort is operational.

The next 6-12 months are no exception, as those heading to Disney World over that period will find short-term fixes, long-term refurbishments, and even a pair of permanent closures.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
While Big Thunder’s closing date has long since passed — the ride was shuttered way back on January 6th — the ride will still be closed for the rest of 2025. The ride is scheduled to reopen sometime in 2026 with “a little bit of new magic.”

Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid
The Magic Kingdom’s Little Mermaid-themed dark ride will be closed for a quick refurbishment from July 21st to July 26th.

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin
Tomorrowland’s Buzz Lightyear attraction will be closing on August 4th, 2025 for a refurbishment that’s expected to last until 2026. The refurbished attraction will feature new ride vehicles, new blasters, and a new scene featuring a parks original robot character named Buddy who will ensure “departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission (by) enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers and a chance to hone their blaster aim.”

Spaceship Earth
EPCOT’s iconic attraction is closing for a much-needed refurbishment on August 25th. It’s scheduled to reopen “later this year” according to Disney.

The Boneyard
The phased closure of Animal Kingdom’s DinoLand U.S.A. continues with the September 2nd shuttering of The Boneyard.

Skyliner
Guests considering staying on any of the Disney Skyliner resorts early in 2026 should know that the gondola system will be down for a quick refurbishment from January 25th, 2026 to January 31st, 2026.

DINOSAUR
Returning to DinoLand, the final element of the land’s closure will occur at an unspecified date in 2026 when DINOSAUR closes to be transformed into an Indiana Jones attraction, one of the major draws of the upcoming Tropical Americas area.

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster
An undetermined date in 2026 will also see the permanent closure of the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, which will be transformed into a Muppet-themed ride.

If you’re planning a trip to Disney World over the next few months, be wary that several closures are scheduled across the resort. Stay tuned to AllEars for further updates on Disney World’s calendar.
