NEWS: Flood Advisory Issued for Orlando and Central Florida

We are deep into hurricane season in Disney World!

Rainy Disney World Day

Tropical wave, Invest 93 L, is bringing lots of rain and a flood advisory to parts of Florida. As the storm begins to move over into Central Florida, we’re breaking down what you need to know and how to handle ugly weather when it hits during your Disney vacation.

Today, July 15th, Invest 93-L is moving over Central Florida. With the storm now moving closer to Orlando and the rain picking up, a Flood Advisory has been posted for Brevard County, Orange County (where Disney World is located), and Osceola County.

According to WESH, this wave will bring “multiple rounds of rain and storms with up to 3 inches of rain.” The biggest concern for the storm will be flooding and lightning. It’s expected that 93-L will move into the Gulf on July 16th, which means the chances of rain will stay throughout the rest of the week.

The wave has a roughly 40% chance of forming into a storm over the next 48 hours and the next 7 days. For now, there will just be lots of rain and lightning during your Disney World trip. Luckily, this isn’t anything new, and you can easily prepare for it, because hurricane season runs from June 1st until November 30th each year.

Hurricanes and bad weather are no joke in Disney World

First, take the weather seriously! When it comes to surviving the rainy days in Disney World, staying up to date with the local weather is the best way to be prepared for any changes that could impact your vacation and travel. Second, be sure to have your rain gear packed! This can include things like a good poncho (this is our favorite), an umbrella, waterproof shoes, or even bringing extra socks for when your feet need to dry off.

Disney World does sell ponchos, umbrellas, rain jackets, and Crocs; however, you will spend a pretty penny in the parks for these items, and we would argue that they aren’t the best quality. Third, dress accordingly! If you know heavy rain is coming, avoid materials like heavy denim that will take a long time to dry and will weigh you down. Wearing light, moisture-wicking clothing can help you dry off as fast as possible.

Fourth, follow Dory’s advice and just keep swimming! As long as the parks are open, you can stay and make the most of them. Many times when the storms hit, huge crowds will leave, making the lines shorter for you. Indoor queues and indoor entertainment will get busier during these periods of time, but sometimes, one longer indoor queue is all you need for the rain to die off so you can continue on with your day.

Look at those storm clouds!

That being said, if you really hate being in the rain (which we totally get), consider a fun resort day! This might look like resort hopping to try new restaurants, bars, and shopping. You might even see a character or two hanging out in the lobby when the weather gets bad. Having small activities to do in your room or in different Disney resorts can be a great way to still enjoy your vacation without needing to walk around the parks all day.

Resorts have rainy days too!

There are so many different ways to handle the rain in Disney World, so don’t be discouraged if you have a bad forecast during your trip. As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for weather news and updates.
