The Popular Disney World Hotel That Fans Are Calling “Slightly Claustrophobic”

Pop Century is one of the most interesting hotels on Disney property. It has a long, complex history includes an unfinished original theme and some Deluxe Resort perks at Value Tier prices.

However, some of our readers have varied opinions on the kitschy resort. Overall, Pop Century holds a 7.9/10 rating from our reader base, with 88% of the 303 reviewers recommending the hotel. However, a recent review was decidedly more mixed.

A review left this April by reader KyleM says that the hotel is their “least favorite” on the Skyliner line, but also “a great resort for the money and little kids.”

That went on to compare it to two of the other resorts on the Skyliner loop, writing, “The resort felt very spread out, even more so than Caribbean Beach. I think this is because it felt very crowded and tight. I liked Art of Animation slightly better because it felt more open. The food offerings seemed better than at Art, but not as good as Caribbean Beach.”

The decidedly mixed review ends with Pros (“Skyliner is a huge plus. Good ‘bang for your buck’. Fun theming” and Cons (“Feels slightly claustrophobic in my opinion. High school/middle school teams stay here during competitions/tournaments.”

This type of mixed thoughts seems to be a running theme in reader reviews of Pop Century. For example, last year, reader PhilipM gave the resort a 9/10 rating and wrote, “Only reason I’m not giving it a 10 is because there are nicer places to stay, but I do love POP!”

However, despite that glowing comment, PhillipM did take the time to list some Cons of the resort, including “no real dining options besides the food court, and no slide at the pool. Neither are a huge deal, but noticeable when compared to other resorts.”

An anonymous reviewer continued the same trend, writing that the hotel was “not a bad place to stay by any means, clean, comfortable: has all the same things any other hotel would . For the price and with access to (the) Skyliner it definitely adds to the rating” but also that the “cafeteria is meh, it’s “kind of ugly in some places”, and that the theme can be a little strange “looking.”
