Magic Kingdom is an iconic theme park. There is nothing quite like the sight of turning the corner of Main Street, U.S.A., to see the beautiful Cinderella Castle in all its glory. Plus, it is home to nostalgic rides such as “it’s a small world,” Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

The park officially opened in October 1971, and while some attractions have stayed the same, there have been many changes since the park opened for guests. Even more changes are on the horizon, as Frontierland will continue to undergo a major transformation.
Let’s start by getting a lay of the land at Magic Kingdom. This iconic theme park is divided into six themed lands: Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. Each of these lands has a selection of offerings such as attractions, shopping, dining, and entertainment. While there is a lot to Magic Kingdom, today, we are focused on Frontierland, up in the top left corner of the map.

Why are we focusing on the future of Frontierland? Well, let’s say there are a lot of changes coming up for this land in the future. Frontierland will be the future location of the new Cars area, and the Villains Land will be built just beyond Frontierland.

We know the new Cars area will be replacing Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America, and based on concept art, we can tell that it will likely be smack dab in the middle of Frontierland and Liberty Square. We don’t know yet exactly how far this new area will expand, but it will definitely be changing the landscape of Frontierland. The new Villains Land will be built beyond Big Thunder Mountain. We don’t know the precise location of this land yet, though.

Frontierland will undergo some significant changes. It will add a new Cars area and two new Cars attractions. The current Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be removed to make space for the area. Also, the new Villains Land will be built somewhere near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Depending on where exactly and how it is built, it might even be visible from Frontierland.

The future of Frontierland involves lots of new construction. While it is bittersweet to see Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America being replaced, we are also excited to see what Disney Imagineers come up with for this space. We know there will be two attractions — one will be a thrilling rally race through the mountains, while the other is geared towards “smaller racers.”

We also can’t wait for a Villains Land to make its way to Disney World. Stay tuned to AllEars for all your Disney World tips, tricks, and news!
