NEWS: Tropical Storm Julia Expected to Become a Hurricane Today

It’s still hurricane season in Florida, and we’re keeping an eye out for any updates that could impact your travel plans.

Hurricane Ian hitting Central Florida

Recently, Hurricane Ian passed through Central Florida, which brought high winds and heavy flooding to the areas around Disney World. The storm also caused the closure of the theme parks and the Orlando Airport.

As of this morning, Tropical Storm Julia is located about 165 miles east south east of Isla De Providencia, Colombia, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. Julia’s tropical storm-force winds have a reach of 80 miles. According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Julia is expected to become a hurricane later today.

The storm is not expected to pass through Florida, so it shouldn’t have a direct impact on operations at Disney World.

Hurricane Ian Aftermath

Currently, Julia is expected to intensify into a hurricane Saturday evening. If it does, it will become the fifth hurricane of the year. Models project that Julia will grow to a maximum sustained wind strength of 85 mph before making landfall potentially along San Andres, Nicaragua by Sunday morning.
