REVIEW: This Popular Disney Restaurant Got A New Menu, And It’s BLOWING OUR MINDS

There is a lot of fantastic food in Disneyland, and yes, we often say we prefer it to Disney World. There’s a good reason for that. Disneyland restaurants are always changing up their menus, including their menus at counter service locations.

New menu at Flo’s V8 Cafe!

Now, Flo’s V8 Cafe hasn’t always been a “must” when we’re visiting Cars Land in Disney California Adventure, but thanks to an entirely new menu, we’re telling you that it’s certainly a “must” right now. Let’s talk about these new foods and drinks.

Flo’s V8 Cafe is a classic neon-colored Route 66-inspired diner in Cars Land.

The restaurant is decorated with fun memorabilia inside and out to make it feel like you’re really dining in Radiator Springs. You can even see a museum showcasing the racing career of the legendary Doc Hudson.

Inside Flo’s

This is a great spot to pick up hamburgers, classic milkshakes, and more to fuel up. However, the menu here recently got a HUGE update, and we tried all the new food and drinks that are available here. We just have to say that Flo’s took a big risk in changing its menu, but for the most part, it was worth it.

Let’s start with drinks. We picked up the new Start Your Engine Cold Brew for $7.29, made with Joffrey’s Shakin’ Jamaican Cold Brew with caramel premium syrup, and a swirl of caramel topped with housemade caramel-flavored cream and a caramel sauce drizzle. We love the Cold Brew Black Caf in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland, but this new drink is a big contender. It’s full of caramel flavor, but we will warn you that it’s creamy and sweet. It’s sort of like a Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino if it were melted, and we mean that in the best way possible.

We also tried the new Stop Sign Cream Soda Pop for $7.79. It’s Sprite with housemade strawberry and coconut cream topped with housemade strawberry cream and strawberry-flavored flakes. It’s a very interesting drink, especially with the flakes. It has a lovely strawberry flavor and great carbonation. The cream also cuts through the flavor to add a nice balance. This drink really fits the vibe of Flo’s V8 Cafe, too.

The food here has changed quite a bit, too. You can now order the Big Dipper Cheeseburger for $15.99. It’s made with a Beef patty, American cheese, B&B pickles, and caramelized onions on a toasted bun with pepperoncini cheese sauce served with a choice of Cuties Mandarin Oranges or fries (we chose fries, of course). This burger works SO well. The cheese adds a nice creaminess to each bite. The burger itself is well-cooked, you get a great crunch from the pickles, and the caramelized onions add a nice earthy flavor.

But we have to go back to that pepperoncini cheese sauce. It is spicy (more like Disney spicy, though), and our favorite thing was dipping the burger in that. This is a rare Disney burger that doesn’t need ketchup or mustard because its flavors are already so full.

That cheese sauce!

Next up is the Winner’s Circle Chicken and Waffle for $17.49. You get a crispy, golden-fried chicken and a buttermilk waffle with whipped butter and maple syrup. This is a filling meal. The buttermilk waffle is good, but it’s a pretty standard Disneyland quick-service waffle.

The chicken, which is a fried chicken thigh,  has a nice breading and is served crispy. The only thing we thought was that we wanted more flavors with this dish. There’s a little bit of a kick to the chicken, but that’s about it. This isn’t going to give Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles a run for its money.

The chicken

The Tuned Up Chicken Fenders are also new. For $14.49, you get three crispy chicken fenders (aka tenders) tossed in your choice of sauce. We chose teriyaki sauce, and we were pretty happy with the results. The tenders are crispy, even after getting drenched with the sauce.

The teriyaki sauce added a nice flavor to the standard Disney chicken tenders. Our fries, though, were a little soggy.

So good with the sauce

The Fillmore Groovy Greens with Crispy Chicken Fenders are $14.79, for those who want a salad option. The regular salad comes with crispy chicken fenders, romaine and kale, bean and corn salad, cucumbers, tomatoes, crispy quinoa, toasted sunflower seeds, and zesty dressing. However, having just had the fenders (which we can vouch for), we got this without the chicken for $11.99 to try it as a plant-based option.

Fillmore Groovy Greens

This is what we would call the perfect summer salad. The dressing has a light citrus flavor that brings out the flavors of everything else. The sunflower seeds and quinoa add crunch and earthy flavors, while the beans make it more hearty. The other veggies are nice and fresh. This is a great respite if you’re looking for a break from typical theme park food. It also might just be our favorite healthy option in Disneyland.

A great plant-based option without the meat

The Fast Track Loaded Fries are fries topped with hearty chili, pepperoncini cheese sauce, sliced pepperoncini, and diced onions for $11.99. We already told you how much we love that cheese sauce, and it works really well on fries. The chili is thick and chunky with lots of flavors.

The fries really soak up the flavor, but we wished there were a little more on the plate. We will warn you again about the spiciness of that cheese sauce, though. If you’re averse to even mild spice, you might want to stay away.

There’s some heat!

Finally, we had to try the Disney Check Meal of Mini Buckwheat Waffles. It includes two mini buckwheat waffles served with sugar-free syrup for $8.49. First up, we love that these are Lightning McQueen waffles…and kids are going to love that, too.

Mini buckwheat waffles

These waffles didn’t have a buttermilk flavor, but they have a slight vanilla flavor once you pour the syrup on. These are classic Disney character waffles. They come with fries, but the Disney Check Meal also includes a cute and water. We’d say this might be a bit overpriced, but if you’re looking for something kids are going to eat, this is a solid option.

It’s Lightning McQueen!

Overall, we’d say that these new menu additions to Flo’s V8 Cafe are a big step up from the previous menu, and we hope these items stick around for a while.
