Disney Shares NEW Updates for 10 MASSIVE Park Expansions

While major expansions are nothing new at Disney theme parks, it’s not often that EVERY Disney resort around the world has major expansions happening AT THE SAME TIME!

From the original Disneyland in Anaheim across the world to the (currently) newest resort in Shanghai, new rides, shows, attractions, and IPs are coming to Disney resorts around the world at a pace that is incredibly exciting to Disney fans of 30+ years like myself.

Walt Disney World

Let’s begin in Walt Disney World, where three of the resort’s parks currently have MAJOR construction projects happening.

In the Magic Kingdom, two massive lands — the Cars-themed Piston Peak addition in Frontierland (which will be themed to a national park and feature two attractions)…

… and Villains Land (a massive land dedicated to Disney’s antagonists under construction, “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain) — are currently under construction.

Major changes are also coming to Hollywood Studios, as the park has three big projects of its own.

In 2025, Muppet*Vision 3D — and the rest of the former Muppet Courtyard — closed to make way for construction of a massive new Monsters, Inc. land that will create Monstropolis and be headlined by a suspended coaster – Disney’s first – based on the film’s iconic door sequence.

After years of scaring, monsters are welcoming humans into Monstropolis with an all-new themed area inspired by the Disney and Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.” film franchise.

The Muppets won’t be gone for long, however, as the characters will be taking over the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster from Aerosmith. We’re sorry “Bad Boys of Boston” fans, but this change will feel like a breath of fresh air for a ride that has seemed very 90’s dated for a while now.

In a bit of a full-circle moment, Star Wars Launch Bay has closed to make way for a NEW take on the Magic of Disney Animation, harkening back to the park’s early days. The new version will feature theming based on the Emmy-winning Once Upon a Studio short that celebrated Disney’s 100th Anniversary. This will include “moving” portraits, as well as character meet & greets. Sketch classes, where guests will be able to draw their own favorite Disney characters, similar to the original Animation Academy. The Drawn to Wonderland playground, which will feature an oversized flower garden with musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party playset, and a Tulgey Wood exploration area, all designed in the style of Disney Legend Mary Blair.

Finally, over at Animal Kingdom, the opening day DinoLand USA is currently being replaced by a new Tropical Americas land…

Disneyland

Across the country at the Disneyland Resort, the massive construction projects (that were given the name DisneylandForward during a somewhat contentious approval process in Anaheim) are beginning to kick off.

California Adventure will see multiple major additions in the upcoming decade, including the Avengers Campus expansion that will see the addition of the long-gestating Avengers E-Ticket attraction Avengers Infinity Defense, which will feature the team battling King Thanos across the multiverse.

Avengers Infinity Defense will have guests join in battle across the multiverse alongside the Avengers to defeat King Thanos and recover stolen Stark technology.

The land will also see the addition of the Stark Flight Lab attraction, which will simulate flight with Iron Man, as voiced by Robert Downey Jr. Construction on these Marvel expansions is ongoing.

The park will also see Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue in Hollywoodland close in 2026 to make way for a new Avatar land, headlined by a massive E-Ticket that looks to use a variation of the Shanghai Pirates of the Caribbean based on concept art.

Meanwhile, a new Coco ride will be located near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier.

In addition to new rides, the expansion will bring a major change to the resort’s infrastructure. In the fall of 2025, Disney filed a new permit for the east side of the resort, where the new parking and transportation hub will be located. The new space, which is replacing a Cast Member parking lot, and will provide around 6,000 parking spaces, shuttle drop-off and pickup areas, dedicated spots for rideshare services, security screening, and easier access into and out of the hub.

Disneyland Paris

Moving to the international Disney resorts, Disneyland Paris’s much-maligned second gate – The Walt Disney Studios Park – is in the midst of a transformation so stark that the park’s name is changing!

The newly christened Disney Adventure Park will feature a full World of Frozen land. Set between the two Frozen films, the land will feature an expanded version of Frozen Ever After will debut with the land, as well as a restaurant and a shop.

In addition, the park will receive a new log-flume attraction based on the 1994 animated film The Lion King, as well as the new Adventure Way, which circles the new central Adventure Bay.

The area will feature small rides based on Tangled and Up!, as well as the Regal View Restaurant & Lounge, a new character dining location with views of the bay.

Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland is currently in the middle of a massive change, which will see the Park’s Space Mountain (previously a clone of the Disneyland version) replaced by a brand new iteration of the classic coaster.

In addition, the park’s version of Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters closed in the fall of 2025 to be replaced by a new attraction based on Wreck-It Ralph.

Looking further into the future, the Oriental Land Company (owners and operators of the Tokyo Disney Resort) floated some potential changes in the spring of 2025. Concept art indicated that rides, including the Jungle Cruise and Railroad at Tokyo Disneyland…

…and the Aquatopia at Tokyo DisneySea, may be removed in the coming decade to make room for new, as yet undecided experiences.

Hong Kong Disneyland

In early 2025, Hong Kong Disneyland announced a new expansion in celebration of the park’s 20th anniversary. The exclusive Pixar Entertainment Experience will be located between Toy Story Land and the World of Frozen. While few concrete details have been revealed, the expansion is set to include a family dark ride (possibly themed to Toy Story or Inside Out), immersive projection spaces, kinetic streetmosphere including roaming characters and parades, as well as various interactive areas.

Hi, Hong Kong!

Shanghai Disneyland

Finally, the newest Disney resort (at least until Disney’s Dubai project is complete) announced a major expansion of its own in the fall of 2025. The key element is a new hotel — Shanghai Disneyland’s 4th — to be built near the park’s entrance. There will also be expansions coming to the resort’s Disneytown (think Downtown Disney) area.

This construction is in addition to the previously announced Spider-Man themed area, which will be headlined by the first roller coaster themed around the Marvel icon.

The next decade looks to be a BUSY one for Disney Parks around the world, as major expansions are coming to each of the resorts! Stay tuned to AllEars for more on the updates!
