“It Was Pure Torture and We Haven’t Been Able to Ride It Since” — Disney Fans Share Their Ride HORROR Stories

Whether it’s your absolute favorite attraction or the one you’ll never, ever go near again, every Disney fan has that one ride they just can’t get behind. So, we decided to put that theory to the test.

“it’s a small world” in Magic Kingdom

That’s why we decided to reach out to you over on Facebook with the question: “What’s the MOST OVERRATED ride at Disney World?” And wow, you all had some thoughts. But instead of just calling out the rides that didn’t live up to the hype, a lot of you shared something even juicier — your horror stories. From ride breakdowns to neck-cramping roller coasters, some of these experiences were so bad that a few of you swore you’d never ride again. Let’s dive into some of your most unforgettable (and slightly traumatic) Disney ride stories.

We reached out to our followers on Facebook and Instagram to ask: “What’s the MOST OVERRATED ride at Disney World?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!

What do you think?

Now, let’s go over some of your top responses!

“It was pure torture and we haven’t been able to ride it since.”

Let’s start with one of the most iconic rides in all of Disney World — but also one of the most divisive. Diane shared,

“It really depends on the audience. My family hates It’s A Small World because we were stuck on it many years ago and the music doesn’t stop when the ride does! It was pure torture and we haven’t been able to ride it since.”

Adios

We’ve all been there — stuck on a ride that just won’t end. But getting trapped inside a slow-moving boat surrounded by hundreds of singing dolls? That’s the stuff of theme park nightmares. That cheerful tune becomes a lot less cheerful when it’s been looping for ten minutes straight with no escape in sight. Diane, we feel you.

“…I was ready to get off.”

And Diane wasn’t alone. April also voted for It’s a Small World, saying,

“I went on it once ten years ago and between the dolls and the same song playing over and over I was ready to get off.”

After all…

This ride might be a nostalgic must-do for some, but clearly not for everyone. While some guests see it as a classic piece of Disney history, others… well, they can’t handle the music, the dolls, or the fact that it just feels like it lasts forever.

“I can only hear that song so many times”

The peaceful and visually stunning Na’vi River Journey in Animal Kingdom might seem harmless enough, but apparently, not everyone finds it relaxing. The Diary of a Disney Dad wrote,

“Navi River… I can only hear that song so many times…”

We get it. The bioluminescent scenery is gorgeous, and that Shaman animatronic is a work of art, but if you’re expecting a thrilling ride — or even much of a story — you might be underwhelmed. For some, it’s more of a “one and done” kind of experience.

“I am so uncomfortable when I get off.”

Moving on to one of Magic Kingdom’s most beloved (and bumpy) classics — Space Mountain. Hannah shared,

“Space Mountain – I would like it if the backrest went up to my head to support my neck. I’m so tense the entire time that I am so uncomfortable when I get off.”

And she’s not alone. Jim added,

“Space Mountain. It’s a very slow roller coaster, it’s cramped and very tough on your neck, especially in the back. If it wasn’t in the dark it would be a candidate for replacement.”

Space Mountain Lights On

Space Mountain might be iconic, but between the jerky turns, low ceilings, and pitch-black setting, it’s definitely not everyone’s idea of fun. Some riders love the mystery and thrill of zooming through the dark — others just end up sore and disoriented.

“Tower of Terror”

Then there’s The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Giving Magic Travel simply said, “Tower of Terror ?” — and honestly, that little emoji says it all.

Tower of Terror

This one divides Disney fans like no other. Some people can’t get enough of the adrenaline rush and eerie theming. Others? They’d rather wait outside with a churro than drop thirteen stories in a haunted elevator.

So there you have it — the rides that left some Disney fans saying never again. From boat rides that play the same song for eternity to roller coasters that leave your neck begging for mercy, it’s clear that even the “most magical place on earth” can deliver a few horror stories along with the magic. But that’s part of the fun of Disney World, right? Everyone has their own must-do and their own skip — and we love hearing all of it.

  1. Ratatouille.

We were the last riders of the day, and they apparently forgot about us. We rolled in, the audio and video flickered a little and shut down. Our rat seemed to drop down as if powering off. Lights started going off. After a little bit, lights and our rat came on and we went through the ride quickly. They said there was an glitch with the audio and let us go again, without turning anything off.

Pretty sure our screams are on a training video now.
