The Magic Kingdom is in a state of transformation, and it’s leading to a crowd control problem at Walt Disney World’s most popular theme park.

Currently, several major projects are going on at the Magic Kingdom. Following the final day of operations of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island on July 6th, work began immediately on the transformation of the area into the Cars-themed Piston Peak. In the meantime, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently in the middle of a year-long refurbishment, and the land “beyond” the mountain is being prepped as the future home of Villains Land. All of those projects combined are leading to an issue.
One thing that the Piston Peak, Big Thunder Mountain, and Villains Land projects have in common is that they’re all concentrated in the park’s western (both the geographic sense, as well as the home of the western-themed Frontierland) corner. This means that, besides Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, this whole area is a maze of construction walls with little to do and several dead ends.

Even the Walt Disney World Railroad has been temporarily rerouted out of the area, as it’s currently running as a shuttle between Main Street and Fantasyland, with the Frontierland Station completely closed.
This has led to large crowd pockets around Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, as well as near the Caribbean Plaza entrance to Adventureland. This is likely to be exacerbated by the opening of the Beak and Barrel lounge later this year.

So, what’s the best way to navigate this issue? Well, for starters, if you’re planning to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, we’d advise doing so as early in the day as possible, and heading to the ride from Adventureland through the aforementioned Caribbean Plaza. From there, avoid the western corner of the park and Frontierland (specifically past the Country Bear Jamboree) for the duration of your day.

The Magic Kingdom’s ongoing construction projects are leading to problems at Disney World’s original theme parks, but there are ways around them. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on the Magic Kingdom’s transformation.
