We talk a lot about the weather in Disney World . That’s because weather is a very big deal in Disney World. First, you have to deal with hurricane season, which can sometimes mean a storm comes through that’s strong enough to shut down the parks. Then there are those rainstorms that pop up in the middle of the day and close rides.

However, we also have to warn you about the heat and humidity in Florida because if you’re not used to it, it will SHOCK YOU. Well, today, especially, you’ll want to be extra careful if you’re hitting the parks because the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the area from noon to 6 PM this evening.
This new Heat Advisory warns of temperatures in the low to mid-90s; however, the humidity is expected to be so high that it will feel more like up to 108 degrees outside. If you’ve never been in the humidity, imagine you’re swimming in a boiling swamp…and that’s close to what it feels like being outside in this kind of weather.

According to the National Weather Service, “a Heat Advisory is issued for dangerous heat conditions that are not expected to reach warning criteria.” However, the advisory will suggest postponing or rescheduling outdoor activities, especially during the heat of the day. Well, if you’re visiting Disney World, that could prove challenging, but we’re going to give you some tips on how to handle the excessive heat.

First up, you’re going to want to make sure you have a water bottle handy so you can stay hydrated throughout the day. You can refill at water bottle refill stations throughout the parks. Also, take advantage of free water at counter service restaurants. You’ll want to drink more water than you normally do to make up for the heat. Also, you might want to consider staying away from alcoholic beverages as they can dehydrate you.

In addition to a water bottle, you might also want to consider keeping cooling towels handy, as well as a portable fan. These will help you tackle those times you have to be directly in the sun and out in the heat.

Next, take a lot of breaks. You don’t have to leave the parks, but you can take advantage of the air conditioning inside shops, restaurants, rides, and shows. In fact, you might want to consider taking in more indoor shows just to make sure you’re getting enough cooling throughout the day. HOWEVER, you also should consider taking a break during the hottest part of the day, which is usually around 3 to 4 PM. Take a few hours to go back to your room or spend some time in the hotel pool to cool off.

You’ll also need to know the signs of heat-related illnesses. These can include headaches, nausea, dizziness, heavy sweating, and other symptoms. If you’re starting to feel sick, get inside air conditioning ASAP and contact a Cast Member to let them know what’s happening. There are also First Aid centers in each park, if you need them.
