This Disney’s Animal Kingdom Trend Is Getting Out of Control

Many Animal Kingdom guests are bypassing this land — and its iconic opening day attraction — because they think it’s already closed, despite it hanging on through the rest of the year.

DinoLand U.S.A. has been an essential part of Animal Kingdom since the park opened in 1998. Headlined by DINOSAUR (which was initially known as Countdown to Extinction), the land was so important to Disney executives that they chose to continue working on it instead of Beastly Kingdom during the park’s design phase.

However, things changed at the D23 Ultimate Fan Event in 2024, when Disney confirmed that DinoLand U.S.A. would be closing to make way for a new land, Tropical Americas, coming to the park.

Several elements of DinoLand began closing in January of 2025, with what remained of Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama – including TriceraTop Spin, the carnival games, and the Treasures Shop – all closed. Work began soon after, with construction walls adorned with Tropical Americas concept art surrounding the area, which has led many Animal Kingdom guests to think that the entire land is closed.

It’s important to know about ride closures!

However, this isn’t actually true. Currently, DINOSAUR is still open, as is Restaurantosaurus, the Boneyard, and Dino-Bite snacks. According to Disney, this area of the land will be open until sometime in 2026.

Once the rest of DinoLand does close, the area will become part of Tropical Americas, a new land which Disney describes as “lush and sprawling, featuring a large fountain in the center where the villagers like to gather and tell stories.” At its center will stand a giant working carousel featuring animals from Disney stories, themed to having been carved out of wood.

Tropical Americas will be headlines by massive attractions based on Encanto and the Indiana Jones franchise.

The former will be a ride-through attraction featuring the Madrigal family. According to Disney, “inside the Casita, Antonio has just received his special gift — the ability to communicate with animals — and his room has transformed into a rainforest. It’s time to go explore alongside him, and you never know what member of the family you might bump into…”

Meanwhile, the Indiana Jones attraction will be reusing the DINOSAUR infrastructure — a full-circle moment, as DINOSAUR itself is a reskin of Disneyland’s original Indiana Jones Adventure — “in this new venture, the man with the hat has recently discovered a perfectly preserved Maya temple, and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to explore it. He’s heard rumors about a mythical creature deep within the temple — and he’s got to see it for himself. So, he brings us along on the adventure… but will there be snakes? We’ll just have to wait and see.”

However, all of that is still in the future, and the still-standing area of DinoLand will still be operating through the rest of 2025 at least.

Despite what many seem to think, parts of DinoLand U.S.A. – including DINOSAUR – are still open at Disney’s Kingdom. Stay tuned to AllEars for further details on when what’s left of the land will go extinct!
