We could spend all day at Disney World pointing out things you may have missed, secrets in rides and attractions, and noting hidden details that make you stop and think “How have I never seen this before?”

On our mission to do EVERYTHING in Disney World, we’ve had the opportunity to dig deep and bring attention to the secret details you may not have taken the time to experience before. If you’re looking to make your next trip to Disney World truly one of a kind, this is one you shouldn’t miss!
Listen, we get it — there’s SO much to do in Disney World how could you possibly do it all? While Disney’s Animal Kingdom might be one of the more sleeper hits of the parks, that doesn’t mean that it’s always easy to catch EVERYTHING there is to do inside this park all in one day, either.

Yep, we’re willing to bet that most of the time you’re walking RIGHT PAST one of the the most incredible experiences you’ll find inside the park and you don’t even know it exists. We’re here to help you out and learn about this unique animal experience hiding in plain sight.

As you enter Disney’s Animal Kingdom, everyone will have to pass the iconic Tree of Life. This majestic display of elegance and longevity is meant to showcase literally hundreds of animals you’ll find worldwide throughout its design (seriously, you could spend all day spotting then in the tree), but you’re missing one of the best experiences that happens right out front of it.

Throughout the day, and coming in at under 10 minutes for each performance time, a few Cast Members will ask folks to gather around the front area of Discovery Island right in front of the Tree of Life. This experience is called Winged Encounters and it’s meant to highlight an exotic bird species you’ll find in nature — the stunning Macaws! These free-flying birds call Disney’s Animal Kingdom their home and are trained on site, but the best feature you’ll find during this show is all of the interesting facts the Cast Members will share with you about this species’ lifespan, how they survive in the wild, and more.

You’ll also get to see an array of colors the Macaws can come in and you might be surprised to find they’re not all rainbow colored as you may have once thought! These birds can live for DECADES making them a less-than-ideal choice for a domesticated pet (we’re talking 40,50, even 60 years) and that’s one of the reasons Disney’s working so hard to educate us about these beautiful birds how to help them thrive.

Make sure you stay through the end because you’ll have a chance to see wonderful display of Blue Throated Macaws soar above you in close range as they land to perch right next to our conservation specialists. This is an experience you won’t find anywhere else across Disney World and truly helps Animal Kingdom come to life! You’ll find the showtimes for these performances listed in the My Disney Experience app if you’re looking to stop by and learn more about these wild birds.
We’re constantly talking about the hidden details, secrets, and changes you need to know about for your next Disney World trip! Be sure to stay tuned with us at AE for them all.
