NEW Video Reveals SECRETS About Upcoming Disney Rides

We love hearing the behind-the-scenes details about how Disney’s new rides and attractions are coming to be, and thanks to a new show, we don’t have to wait until a big event like Destination D23 to hear the news!

Monsters, Inc. Land is coming to Hollywood Studios.

Disney recently made tons of announcements about their upcoming attractions at SXSW, but now a new episode of “We Call it Imagineering” has just revealed a few more tidbits about these upcoming attractions…so we’re giving you the news all in one place!

First up on the docket was Stark Flight Lab, one of the new attractions coming to the Avengers Campus expansion in Disney California Adventure. Imagineers really wanted to focus on bringing Tony Stark as an inventor to life.

Essentially, you’re being recruited by Tony Stark to see if you have what it takes to be an inventor and to do this, Imagineers are combining two ride systems that they’ve never paired together before — the Chassis that zooms up and down the track, and then the transport system. This means the ride vehicle experience completely changes, as it’s on the Chassis track before the seats are grabbed by the transport system arm and take you up and away to fly!

Instead of hiding the technology that gets you from point A to point B on the ride, Imagineers have decided to celebrate the transition and work the ride vehicle change into the look and feel of the attraction, as it already feels very futuristic. They also revealed that their goal is to have twelve of these ride vehicle switch-offs working at the same time! You can see one of them test it out in the video.

Disney also gave us a look into how the new Cars-themed land coming to Magic Kingdom (replacing Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America) is moving along. To get a feel for different terrain and how cars would move on it, the Imagineering team rented ATVs and went out driving!

After that research trip was complete, the Imagineers partnered with a company that builds motocross tracks around the world, which helped them develop a track to continue to test how it feels to go fast, while also going over rough terrain, effectively combining a race aspect with a “dodging hazards on the road” goal as well.

From what it sounds like, guests may have a part of the ride that they’re actually steering the attraction, but it will quickly move onto a track. However, Imagineers are now working on making sure that the transition feels smooth and isn’t jarring.

Finally, we have the new Monsters, Inc. Monstropolis door coaster coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Imagineers confirmed that you’ll see other trains throughout your ride, mimicking that hectic feeling of watching all the doors come and go/fly by, just like you see in the movie.

It’s also been confirmed that just like how the beginning of that iconic scene in the film starts with the claw coming down to pick up the door, guests will also be brought upwards before starting on the track! They’ll hit the first “boost zone” after being raised, and that’s where they’ll be shot into the door vault.
