We go to Disney World every single day — which means we’ve got plenty of controversial takes on everything from food and rides to merch and more.

But, every now and again, we have such a hot and spicy opinion that we hesitate to even share it with you, out of fear one of us will get burned. Disney World is about to go through some pretty significant changes and we just can’t hold in this spicy, hot take!
RED ALERT!!! We’ve got a Disney World hot take coming your way, so don’t say we didn’t warn you. Are you sure you want to continue? Alright then. We’re going to make a pretty big claim here and tell you that in 2025, it just might not be worth buying tickets to Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom.

Have you put your pitchforks down yet? Okay, good. Hear us out! Both Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom are getting ready to undergo some MAJOR construction over the next few years, which could have more of an impact on your trip than you might realize.

Frontierland in Magic Kingdom will be nearly unrecognizable as Disney begins work on a new Cars-themed area. The Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer’s Island will be shut down at the beginning of 2025 so work can begin on the new land.

Not only that, but Big Thunder Mountain Railroad — which is also in Frontierland — will be closing on January 6th, 2025 for a major lengthy refurbishment. As of now, it’s not expected to reopen until sometime in 2026 — at least an entire year later.
Because of this, Frontierland is expected to be largely untraversable while construction takes place. This can put a pretty big damper on your overall experience — and it can even lead to more crowds throughout the rest of the park.

Over at Animal Kingdom, we’re anticipating a whole lotta closures and construction throughout 2025, as the DinoLand, U.S.A. demolition and transformation to Pueblo Esperanza — the Tropical Americas land — begins.

TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester and Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures will officially close on January 13th, 2025 to make way for new rides, restaurants, shops, and more that will be themed to Encanto and Indiana Jones.
Luckily, the DINOSAUR ride will remain open for a little bit longer, and while Disney hasn’t shared an official closing date just yet — it will be closing for good sometime soon, too. As of now, the Tropical Americas land is expected to be completed by 2027.

And sure, a majority of both of these parks will still be open throughout 2025, so if you’re planning a trip — you can still have a good time! But, you might be disappointed in your purchase if you go expecting the full picturesque package, only to be met by lots of construction walls in these parks.

In the meantime, we’ll be on the hunt for the latest news from Disney World and more — so make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog if you don’t want to miss a thing!

I’m dreading the remake of Frontierland. Not only will the construction walls be unsightly, but the end product will not be worth it. Taking away the peace and natural beauty of the Rivers of America to build a crowded, concrete Cars Land is a travesty. Cars Land would be more appropriate at Hollywood Studios….or in a 5th park. I just wish they’d leave the beautifully transporting Frontierland alone. It’s a calm oasis of nature that is not to be found anyway else in MK.
