Disney World is overwhelming, that much is for sure!
It often gets less overwhelming the more you visit. But things are almost always changing in the parks, and that can make it difficult to find your way around, even if your last visit was only a year or two ago. This means that there may be some questions about the park that you’re embarrassed to ask, but don’t worry, we’re here to answer them all for you BEFORE you even have to ask!
Which Rides Are Too Scary, Even For Adults?
It’s true that some Disney World rides are too much for kids, and even some adults, depending on what you’re sensitive to!
For example, if you’re really freaked out by the dark, we wouldn’t recommend Haunted Mansion. If you’re afraid of tight spaces, Mission: SPACE is a major no-go, and if you’re afraid of triggering motion sickness, stay away from almost all rides that contain screens. If you’re worried about a ride, we suggest looking up photos or videos from the attraction ahead of time to see if it’s something you may want to stay away from.
Where Are The Bathrooms?
Let’s be honest here — knowing where the bathrooms are ANYWHERE you go is very important! The good news is that Disney World is full of bathrooms — the only place you won’t find one is in Liberty Square in Magic Kingdom.
If you’re in the parks and searching for a bathroom, you can always as a Cast Member, or you can can use the My Disney Experience App and select for it to just show you restrooms. You can even ask for it to lead you there!
Do Any Of The Hotels Lead Directly into The Parks?
This is a valid question, especially since one of Disneyland’s hotels does lead directly into Disney California Adventure and Universal’s Epic Universe is getting an in-park hotel.
However, unfortunately there is no hotel that leads into Disney World at this time. There are hotels, specifically around Magic Kingdom, that have walking trails to get to the park, but none will take you directly into any park.
Is Hotel Breakfast Included with My Room Price?
You’re paying a LOT to stay at a Disney World hotel, often way more than a hotel outside the Disney bubble, and some of those offer breakfast. Is the same true at Disney World?
Unfortunately, the answer is no for most Disney World hotels, unless you’re staying Club Level. At Club Level, there’s a lounge almost always open for you to enjoy the snacks and drinks there for you, and you may take them from the lounge back to your room and the parks as you wish. For the majority of Disney World hotels and stays though, no breakfast is included.
Do You Have To Pay Per Ride, Like a Carnival?
Interesting enough, the answer here is “not anymore.” When Disney World first opened, similar to Disneyland, there was a general admission price, but then you could purchase “Ticket Books” or tickets for individual rides as well.
However, that’s not the case anymore. Now, you’ll pay the price to get into the park, and you’ll only have to worry about additional fees for dining and souvenirs.
How Does the Monorail Work?
Ah, one of the most confusing parts of Disney World — the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC)! This is how you’ll get to Magic Kingdom if you drive your own car or get dropped off by a rideshare service. However, if you take a bus from another park or your Disney World hotel, you’ll be taken straight to Magic Kingdom.
The TTC is where you’ll find the Monorail, which can take you directly to Magic Kingdom (the Express Monorail), to the Monorail resorts (the Contemporary, the Grand Floridian, and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort) and then Magic Kingdom (Resort Monorail), or even to EPCOT (EPCOT Monorail). It doesn’t cost anything to take the monorail, and you can even ride it as many times as you’d like to!
Should I Book A Vacation Package or Buy My Tickets and Hotel Separately?
The answer here is that it totally depends on what hotel you’re looking at and how long you’re planning to stay!
Thankfully, Disney has a helpful “compare” feature on their website where you can compare deals, including what it would cost for the package vs. paying for your hotel and tickets separately. However, many people choose to book a package if they know they want to stay on property for the entirety of their visit, because it often gives them a nice deal!
Can I Bring My Own Food?
We are SO relieved to say that the answer here is a resounding YES! You don’t need to pay the higher-than-normal prices at Disney World for meals and snacks — you are more than welcome to bring your own snacks into the park.
However, they can’t be in glass containers (except for baby food), coolers are not allowed (unless it’s in the form of a backpack that fits within their measurement allowances), and you’ll want to stay away from foods that can easily be smushed or spoiled if you won’t be keeping them cold.
Where is Harry Potter?
This one makes us cringe every time, but hey, it’s a valid question! The answer though, is nowhere.
See, Harry Potter isn’t owned by Disney, it’s owned by Warner Bros., and you’ll find all the Harry Potter attractions in Orlando over at Universal Orlando. There are Harry Potter areas in both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Orlando, but you won’t find any at Disney.
What Does A MagicBand Do?
A MagicBand is NOT essential to your Disney World vacation, so no need to pay extra if you don’t want to!
It’s just an easier way to connect to your Disney account, meaning you can use it to scan into the park, to tap in for Lightning Lanes, or even have a credit/debit card loaded on there and can tap it for purchases. And MagicBand+ will interact with the golden statues around the park and with nighttime shows. Again though, you can also just tap your park ticket, or your phone if you have it saved on there, just as easily.
Do I Have To Stay At A Park All Day?
While spending an entire day in Disney World often sounds incredible, the truth is that it can be exhausting. So you’ll be thrilled to know that the answer is no, you don’t have to stay at the park all day.
You can absolutely head back to your hotel to rest, then return to the park (or a different part if you have a park hopper ticket) later in the day. Or, you could leave and return multiple times, if you needed to! Your ticket is valid for the whole day, no matter how many times you come and go.
Does Disney World Do Hand Stamps?
Nope! Unlike some other theme parks, Disney World doesn’t use hand stamps to show that you’ve entered a park. That’s what their technology is for!
Their technology is able to tell them when you tapped into a park, if you have a valid ticket for that day, and will even scan your fingerprint to make sure you’re not using someone else’s ticket. So no need for stamps — but at after hours events they will often give you wristbands to prove you’ve paid to be there!
What Should I Wear? Can I Wear a Costume?
If you’re heading to Disney World and don’t know what to wear, the most important thing to remember is to dress in what makes YOU feel comfortable. You’re going to be doing lots of walking, so dress prepared for that, and make sure you’re in something that you can (likely) sweat in a lot too.
As for a costume, guests under age 14 can wear a costume but not a mask covering their whole face, and while guests 14+ can “Disneybound” (dressing loosely like a Disney character using normal clothing), dressing up is not allowed. However, during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, dressing up is VERY much encouraged!
