There are many ways to meet characters in Disney World, but a good way to get guaranteed interactions with characters is by booking a character dining experience at a restaurant.

So we did just that — and booked breakfast at a restaurant that not many folks think of when it comes to character dining, Cape May Cafe at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. Now, you can only get character dining here for breakfast, so we headed there one morning to check it out.
You can watch the video of our visit to Cape May Cafe — at the suggestion of DFB Dustin — right here!
Atmosphere
Cape May Cafe is at the Beach Club Resort, which is one of the hotels in the EPCOT area (you can walk to EPCOT from there!). The restaurant serves a buffet dinner, but it also hosts Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast, which is a breakfast buffet with characters.
There’s a Northeastern beachy vibe in the restaurant, with lots of muted colors and light. Although this is a smaller restaurant, there’s still plenty of seating.

The characters will come to your table to say hello as you dine — but we’ll get to them in a bit.
Food & Drinks
The breakfast buffet is $47 for adults and $30 for children, making this one of the cheapest character meals in Disney World. You get a great selection of food, including some unique items, as well as a choice of drinks, although you can pay for specialty drinks, too.

We decided to order the Salted Caramel Cold Brew, made with Mozart chocolate liqueur, heavy cream, Joffrey’s cold brew, and salted caramel topped with whipped cream for $15.50. This was a super sweet drink, but the alcohol balances it out. You can also really taste the salted caramel flavors, but again, if you don’t like super sweet drinks, you might not like it.

We also ordered the Traditional Bloody Mary for $15. It’s made with Absolut pepper vodka and Bloody Mary mix. It was a pretty standard Bloody Mary, although the pepper vodka gave it a little extra kick.

We also ordered a regular Joffrey’s Shakin’ Jamaican Cold Brew for $3.99…

…and a Cafe Latte for $4.99. Both are just your standard Joffrey’s drinks, but perfect for breakfast.

However, you will have Salted Caramel Beach Buns delivered to your table, along with Vanilla Cream. These are a nice take on a sticky bun and are an added bonus of having breakfast here.

Then it was time to hit the buffet. You’ll find a lot of standard Disney buffet items here. For starters, there’s a variety of fruit.

More importantly, there’s a Breakfast Taco Bar. Now, this is something you don’t find at any other breakfast buffet in Disney World. This really impressed us.

Don’t forget the cheese and salsa on those breakfast tacos.

Of course, you have more standard breakfast fare, like eggs, bacon, and sausage.

But let’s talk about these Poached Eggs for a minute, because they were SO good and different. Of course, you gotta’ have the Breakfast Potatoes, too.

For something a little healthier, there’s Oatmeal.

You can even grab a dinner roll and cheese.

But the Cheddar Biscuits is where it’s at, and they were wonderfully flaky and cheesy. Trust us — GET THE BISCUITS.

There’s even an Omelet Bar and a carving station with Ham…

Did we mention the Crepes? Yep, these are good, too!

Like we said, there is a LOT of variety here, with standard breakfast items and more. The Mickey Waffles also impressed us — they seemed even more fluffy and crispy than what we’d had previously. Plus there are pancakes, French toast, and pastries to grab.

Overall, when just considering the food, this is one of the best breakfast buffets we’ve had in Disney World. There was enough food to customize your meal, and everything we tried was tasty.
Characters
Of course, the food is only part of the character dining experience. We saw the characters several times and had fun interactions with them. We even saw most of them more than once at our table! We also love their beach outfits. We saw Minnie…

Donald…

Daisy…

…and Goofy! Because the restaurant is smaller, you’ll likely get more than one interaction with each character.

They also come out every hour or so and invite the kids to do a little dance with them.
Should you go?
We would say this is the BEST character breakfast in Disney World, although we never really hear a lot of folks talking about it. The food is incredible, the characters are super fun, and the service is amazing. Because this isn’t one of the more popular character dining experiences in Disney World, it’s also usually easy to get a reservation here.
Cape May Cafe Restaurant
Services: Buffet/All You Care to Eat
Around 80% of AllEars readers recommend Cape May Cafe for breakfast, and we’re surprised that the number isn’t even higher. But we guess we can just keep this spot as our little secret, right?
Overall, if you want a character dining experience that also has great food, Cape May Cafe should be on your list. The fact that it’s also one of the least expensive character dining experience at Disney World is just the icing on the proverbial cake.

We always go here breakfast on our yearly trip to WDW. We highly recommend it as it is good food, wonderful character interactions and a nice ‘rest-day’ location to visit.
Just hope that your raving review doesn’t increase the interest in this restaurant and make it more difficult to get a reservation 😉
