You better hold on tight, ’cause this here’s the WILDEST RIDE IN THE WILDERNEEESSSSS.

Was that too much? No? You love Big Thunder Mountain as much as we do? Okay, whew. You’re definitely in the right place, then. This post is going to take a deep dive into the iconic Disney World attraction. Are ya ready?
Alright, partners. Here are 15 details hidden throughout Big Thunder Mountain that only the PROS will notice. (Well, or the Disney-obsessed.) Let’s go then!

Tony Baxter Portrait
Tony Baxter is the former senior vice president of Creative Development for Walt Disney Imagineering.

This portrait is in the ride queue and many fans think it is Tony Baxter — what do you think?
Drastic Amount of Explosive Paraphernalia
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is themed after a runaway train during the gold rush. Of course, we expect to see some explosives!

However, when you really pay attention, explosives are nearly EVERYWHERE.
Hidden Tinker Bell
As you exit the ride, pay close attention to the rocks on your left!

You can spot some cracks in the rocks that look like Tinker Bell.
Man in Bathtub
Hey, back during the Gold Rush, baths were an every-once-in-a-while type of occurrence.

He’s just taking a much-needed soak! You can spot him sitting in a bathtub in some pink pajamas adjacent to the track.
Billy Goats and Boars
Throughout the ride, you can catch a glimpse of some cool animal friends, like billy goats and boars!

See how many you can find throughout the ride.
Casket
At the end of the ride, you can catch sight of a casket. It says “Cabinet & Casket Co. — Furniture, Upholstery, & Embalming.”

Back during the Gold Rush, it was unfortunately common for mine workers to be killed during mishap explosions or falling debris.
Dinosaur Skeleton
This one is not so hidden, but if you haven’t already noticed the dinosaur skeleton, it’s actually one of our favorite parts of the ride!

Miners would often discover fossils in their search for gold.
Train Tracks That End
Remember those mine explosions we mentioned earlier?

Well, sometimes those mine explosions would result in a loss of train tracks! There’s a spot where you can see broken train tracks throughout the ride.
Professor Cumulus Isobar
This character is a traveling con artist who claims that he is able to summon rain.

You can find him and his mules adjacent to the track, and you’ll see him dumping water outside of his buggy.
Dangling Possums
There are all sorts of animals, remember?!

The hanging possums are some of our favorites throughout the ride.
Trashcans Built Into the Queue
Just before you’re given a gate number to board the ride, there are built-in trash cans on either side of the queue!

This is a convenient detail of the ride that many walk right past!
Vintage Signs in the Queue
Waiting in line here can be entertaining if you take the time to look around the queue and read the signs!

There are many signs that make comical references to the signs you’d find at miners’ stations.
Hidden Speakers
At the front of the ride, you’ll find some crates that are part of the attraction scenery.

They’re actually the speakers that allow you to hear the music and ambient sounds!
Saloon and Old Buildings
Throughout the ride, you’ll find old buildings like this saloon.

That’s because the storyline of Big Thunder Mountain focuses on the fact that instead of mining remote mountainous areas, they’re mining next to the ghost town of Tumbleweed! Oh, and did we mention that the mountain is haunted?
And there you have it! Did you already know about these details? Were you already a Big Thunder Mountain expert? We’ll continue to keep you updated and in the know with fun posts like these, so make sure to stay tuned to AE for more!
