The Walt Disney Company and its CEO Bob Chapek have been in the hot seat lately, receiving criticism over the way the company has handled its response to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” Bill.
After initially not issuing a public response to the Florida bill, Chapek issued a memo to all Disney employees, a statement that was criticized by many employees. While Disney has since issued a statement denouncing the legislation, the Company’s handling of the issue has led to a group of Disney employees scheduling walkouts in an effort to demand more action from the Walt Disney Company. Today, a full day walkout is planned, and while Disney has not publicly commented on the planned walkout, various statements of support for the LGBTQIA+ community were released on Disney’s social platforms today.
The Walt Disney Company has taken to its various social media platforms and accounts to announce that they “oppose any legislation that infringes on basic human rights” and that they “stand in solidarity and support [their] LGBTQIA+ cast, crew, guests and fans”.

Let’s be brutally honest here: Disney may be supporting LBGTQIA+ this month and the next several months through June (when Gay Days happens at WDW, an “unofficial” gathering at WDW, but with a lot of rainbow merch and food for sale). However, as the midterm elections approach, the Disney corporation will be right back to where they were prior to Chapek’s non-statement that he has been trying to fix.
Any idea how much of the angst against the Parental Rights in Education Bill is coming from people with kids in K-3rd grade in Florida?
