Yesterday, it was announced by Disney that they would be laying off 28,000 of their Cast Members at the domestic Disney Parks.
Employees will be affected across the board domestically at the parks, resorts, and even the restaurants.
In a Facebook post from the Orlando Hotel and Restaurant Workers Movement (or Unite Here Local 737), the union stated that are in negotiations with Disney about its members’ layoffs and how it will impact them. They detailed that ,”Unlike at the other theme parks and hotels in Central Florida, Disney workers have a voice at the table because of our Union.”
Since this is the case, they will continue to work on the details of, “How many full-time and part-time Cast Members will be affected, how long health insurance and recall rights will continue and many other issues crucial to Cast Members.”
While the Orlando Hotel and Restaurant Workers Movements stated they were “disappointed to learn that the Covid-19 crisis has led Disney to make the decision to layoff Cast Members,” they will be providing more details about employment situations soon. As other unions and Disney continue to give updates, we’ll make sure to let you know the latest news about the upcoming layoffs.
