Tokyo Disney Resort reopened in July of this year, after closing in late February.
But, we’ve still been waiting for news as to the opening of the expansion and additions that were being built at Tokyo Disneyland Park. Now, we’ve got an official date when a whole set of new attractions, retaurants, and shops will be opening at Tokyo Disneyland Park!
Since Tokyo Disney Resort reopened in early July, we have seen various updates from the Resort — including the news that nighttime entertainment was going to start once again in Tokyo Disneyland, and that a new nighttime spectacular would be coming soon called “Believe! Sea of Dreams!”
But, one area that we had yet to hear more updates on was the expansion and additions that were being built in Tokyo Disneyland Park. These expansions include a new Beauty and the Beast attraction, a Baymax attraction, a character greeting experience, and much more. More on those details in a moment! The expansion was set to open on April 15, 2020, but could not open then as the park was closed, and did not open when the park reopened in July.
Now, Tokyo Disney Resort has officially announced that the new attractions, restaurants, and shops that are part of this expansion — which is the largest expansion of Tokyo Disneyland Park ever — will be open on September 28th!
The expansion occupies an area that stretches across Fantasyland, Tomorrowland and Toontown! So, what will be opening up on September 28th? Let’s go through some details!
First, Tokyo Disney Resort will bring the story of Beauty and the Beast to life through a brand new attraction called Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast. The animatronics for this attraction look truly incredible! There will also be a few “Village Shoppes” where, for the time being, guests will be able to purchase the displayed items will through the Tokyo Disney Resort App. And, there will be a few restaurants including La Taverne de Gaston and LeFou’s. Disney has noted that depending on the day, however, guests may not be able to line up at some restaurants or shops included as part of the expansion.
In Tomorrowland, guests will be able to hop on a new Big Hero 6 themed attraction called The Happy Ride with Baymax. A restaurant called The Big Pop — which will offer popcorn in multiple flavors — and a gift shop will be open in Tomorrowland as well as part of the expansion.
Finally, in Toontown, guests will be able to enjoy a new Disney Character greeting experience called Minnie’s Style Studio, which will be the first greeting location in Tokyo Disneyland where guests will be able to meet Minnie and take photos.
Some areas that are part of the expansion, however, will not open until a later date. Specifically, Fantasyland Forest Theatre and its “Mickey’s Magical Music World” show will open at a later date that has yet to be announced.
Tokyo Disneyland will also be implementing some measures in relation to these new areas to ensure the health and safety of its guests and Cast Members. In order to avoid congestion, some of the new experiences have been modified and entry to the experiences will be limited on a temporary basis.
Tokyo Disneyland guests will also need to utilize a new entry request system through the Tokyo Disney Resort App to acquire time reservations at the new attractions and character greeting experience. If you’d like to try some of the new restaurants or see one of the new shops, you’ll also need to make an advance reservation.
We can’t wait to see what this new expanded area looks like. We’ll keep our eyes open for more news about Tokyo Disney Resort and all of the Disney theme parks around the world!
