Review of Chefs de France - Lunch/Dinner

I thoroughly enjoyed Chefs de France. It was a pretty good experience from start to finish. The server was so friendly, even though we had a bit of a language issue. It might have been our Southern accents which threw things off a bit, but we seemed to get around it by simply pointing at the menu and ordering in that fashion. The food was excellent, with one tiny exception. My French onion soup was a bit on the salty side. It was still yummy, but the salt level was higher than I'm accustomed to. The salmon was delicious, the desserts were amazing. Our reservations were at 7:20, and by the time we walked out the door Illuminations was about to start, so 7 or so is an ideal time to enjoy dinner and walk straight into a spectacular fireworks show. All in all a great night. I highly recommend this place!

Pros:

Great food, beautiful atmosphere

Cons:

language barrier presented a couple of problems

Review of Crystal Palace Lunch/Dinner

Let me just preface this review by saying I did NOT want to eat here. This reservation came about because it was my son's birthday, and both he and his child-at-heart dad wanted to meet Winnie the Pooh. I'm not a huge fan of buffet dinners; I usually find them bland and sketchy at best. So I made the reservation 180 days out with serious reservations of my own, and the entire time I'm asking them, "Sure you don't want to change your mind?" Well, they didn't, and sure enough, we wound up at Crystal Palace. And I'm so glad we did! We were matched with the most wonderful server on the planet (wish I could remember her name, but she was thoroughly British and thoroughly cool!) There was food for even the pickiest person in our party. Everything was tasty (with possibly the exception of the green beans; they were just plain) and the desserts almost destroyed us; we had to try them all several times over and we were already full from dinner! The characters took the time to take pictures with everyone in our party, and I really appreciate that. I can't think of a single thing that went wrong during that dinner, and for that, this place gets a solid ten from me. Can't wait to go again!

Pros:

character interaction; service

Cons:

Can't think of any

Review of Pop Century Resort (Value Resort)

This is our 3rd visit at POP in the past 3 yrs. We are in the eighties section with a refurbished room. The rooms now have queen beds, one being a Murphy bed that can be stored away to allow for a very small table and 2 chairs. We are 3 adults and a teen so we appreciate the larger beds but the room has very little space with both beds. We like that the floors are carpet-free and that the beds are now comfy. The refurb is not small child friendly though. The beds are higher off the floor, there is no bathtub and curtains are now sliding doors that could pinch little fingers. The 70s, 60s and 50s sections are the closest to the main building and buses. This 80s building is quite a walk.

Pros:

Organized bus lines, well lit, staff

Cons:

Refurb rooms with some negatives

Review of All Star Movies Resort (Value Resort)

We stayed here with five people (2 adults, 2 children under 10, and 1 infant). Requested and received a connecting room with others in our party. Room was not large, but certainly had enough space for our younger family. We used and enjoyed the pools, food court, bar, and transportation. All areas were clean and well-kept, though a little aged. The themeing was great for young kids. The food court was convenient and had enough selections for our family. It is basic cafeteria food, but it worked well for the two times we ate there. We used online check-in and didn't have to go to the front desk. Our room number was emailed right to us and we could use our magic bands to open the doors. All in all this was a great space for the value.

A side note, we only used the bus 2-3 times as we had our own vehicle. The few times we used it the busses were quick and drove right from the Movies resort directly to the parks and vice versa with no other stops.

Pros:

Value, Themeing, Cleanliness

Staff was great at explaining what could be ordered on quick service dining plan. We had southern, BBQ and classic burgers with fries which were all quite large and delicious. My favorite part of the meal were the fries with dipping sauces. Garlic Ranch and horseradish we're fabulous.

Pros:

Great burgers, dipping sauces for fries, staff

Cons:

Crowded seating

Review of All Star Music Resort (Value Resort)

All in all, our stay at the All-Star Music Resort was more than acceptable. The beds in the "value" resorts must have been upgraded since our last stay at Pop Century; because they felt a lot better than the pieces of cardboard we had to sleep on a few years back. The resort was always tidy, and we didn't run into any issues regarding getting enough towels or having enough supplies. It was quiet in our neck of the woods, as we were put in the Country section of the resort and few people were staying in that area. But that also leads to a huge negative with our stay.

We were stuck IN THE BACK OF THE RESORT! We planned this vacation eight months out, which we hoped would mean we'd be staying somewhere closer to the food court, even if just a building or so closer. We also requested a room on the first floor as one person in our party is disabled and needed a disabled room. Both requests were summarily ignored. We wound up in a room on the third floor in the farthest section from the food court. As nice as the peace and quiet was, when you've just come back from the parks and you're tired and your feet are aching from all the walking, the last thing you want to do is walk a quarter of a mile to the food court! Most nights we drove up to the main building instead of hoofing it. Not to mention most of the people in our party despise country music, and having to hear the same stupid Faith Hill and Carrie Underwood songs playing over and over again got really grating! But, as they say, the rooms are just for the times you aren't in the parks, right?

My last complaint would be the food court. There were so few choices there, and breakfast was basically the choice of THREE STINKING MEALS! Really? I expect better of a Disney resort. One of the stalls was continually closed down, and it might have been because we were there in an "off-peak" season. But there really isn't an off-peak season at Disney anymore, and from the looks of the crowded food court, they really needed every area in the court to be fully opened and manned.

Would I still recommend this resort? Yeah, why not? It's still a pretty nice resort, all things considered. We enjoyed walking the grounds on the days we weren't completely exhausted from our time in the parks. The staff was really nice, and they did try to unsuccessfully remedy the issue with the rooms. We opted to not have our rooms cleaned, so I can't tell you about the level of service from mousekeeping. But if you're trying to do an inclusive Disney vacation on a budget, I'd recommend this hotel.

Pros:

Better beds, clean and overall pleasant

Cons:

Stuck in the back of the resort, did not honor handicapped request

I had eaten at this particular restaurant when I was younger and I wanted to share that experience with my kids. Big mistake. This place has gone downhill. Where they used to serve yummy hamburgers and hot dogs, they now serve gross and inedible flatbreads and "Italian-esque" sandwiches. I made it through half of my sandwich before I finally had to call it a day and toss it out. If I had not been on the free dining plan I would have been angry to have spent so much on such a lousy meal. Oh well, lesson learned. Next time we'll find a quick service spot that is a lot better than this one.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Awful food and crowded

Review of Be Our Guest Dinner

We scored a Christmas party dining reservation and were eager to finally try Be Our Guest. Although we were thrilled with the theme of the restaurant (we sat right under the big chandelier), the food was generally very good, and it was fun to meet The Beast, I would not go back. Not everyone in our party thought the food was good (my particular meal was delicious, but I was in the minority among our 8 party members); it was waaaaaaaay too noisy -- we all felt like we were in a cafeteria; our service was not great; and honestly, not one of the 8 people at our table thought the grey stuff was delicious. 🙁 We are all happy to have tried Be Our Guest, but we all agreed that if we're going to go to extreme measures to get a reservation, there are other restaurants we prefer.

Pros:

Theme, food

Cons:

Noise, service

We had just eaten Italian food at Epcot the night before, so the food was merely average. But, the service we received was the best of the whole trip. Not only did they get our party of 8 seated a full hour before our reservation (we were wiped out) on a Christmas party night, but our server, Alfie, was delightful. The location is fantastic too. It might not be our first choice, but it will always be a reliable and welcome standby.

Pros:

Location, service

Cons:

Food is average, noisy
