Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend 2013 – The Rest of the Weekend

Believe it or not, we did things OTHER than run for the three+ days we were in Anaheim over Labor Day weekend. 🙂 Here’s some highlights. We stayed at the DVC Villas at the Grand Californian. At first I wasn’t too thrilled with our room location…here’s a view from outside the elevator lobby of the … Continue reading "Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend 2013 – The Rest of the Weekend"

Carthay Circle Restaurant: The Glamour of Hollywood’s Golden Age Meets the History and Heritage of Disney

Posted on
With the new Buena Vista Street, instead of depicting California as it is today, guests are transported to Los Angeles of the 1920s, the time when Walt Disney first arrived. Now much more similar to Main Street USA at Disneyland, Buena Vista Street includes an array of shopping, dining, and entertainment. Guests can hop aboard the Red Car Trolley as it takes them past stores such as Oswald's Gas and Oil, Elias and Company Department Store, Mortimer's Market, and the Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Cafe and Bakery. The crown jewel of Buena Vista Street, however, is a replica of the Carthay Circle Theater; it has become to California Adventure what Sleeping Beauty Castle is at Disneyland or Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom.

Pluto’s Private Dance Party

Posted on
I think I can speak for my California posse when I say, the highlight of a day at Disneyland is playing with the characters. Whether it’s a deep discussion about looking after mischievous Alice with Mad Hatter or high-fiving Pinocchio as he heads backstage, these are moments we treasure. My friend Yoli (who I’ll be … Continue reading "Pluto’s Private Dance Party"

Disneyland Half Marathon 2012 – Part 3, The Food

Friday night we had dinner at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney. We don't eat here very often, and I don't really know why, because we always look at the menu and have a hard time choosing - there are so many things that look good! I had made a priority seating for 8:00, and we were quickly seated at an outdoor table on the ground floor right against the railing, so we had a great spot to people-watch those going by.

Napa Rose Chef’s Counter – A Dining Experience!

For those not familiar with it, Napa Rose is the signature restaurant at the Grand Californian, with dishes featuring seasonal ingredients inspired by the wine country. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with lots of wood and interesting light fixtures. I find it elegant but comfortable. There is an open show kitchen, and guests can book … Continue reading "Napa Rose Chef’s Counter – A Dining Experience!"

The Disneyland Hotel has been undergoing extensive renovation for a while now. Major facelifts to the three towers, as well as the construction of a new pool area and restaurant complex. Hungry Bear Restaurant Review

Posted on
The Hungry Bear Restaurant in Critter Country re-opened recently with a new menu, featuring some new and rather unusual menu items. Lee and I tried some of them on our visit last weekend. The previous Hungry Bear menu offered your basic burgers and fries – nothing too exciting. The new menu still has burgers and … Continue reading "Hungry Bear Restaurant Review"

Recent Disneyland Meals

Thought I’d write about some of the new (to me) meals I’ve had at Disneyland over my last few trips. The Village Haus in Fantasyland re-opened late last year with a somewhat new menu – I have to say I was happy to see a new twist on the the burgers and pizza they served … Continue reading "Recent Disneyland Meals"
