Gibraltar! The Rock. What a fantastic day.

Our tour meet-up was 9am in Rockin’ Bar D – a walking tour of Gibraltar. We boarded a bus that took us from the harbor across the wall separating the old city from the new city to the cable car station.

About 25 of us packed into one car and six minutes later we were at the top of the Rock. What an incredible view.

We wandered the old battery site and toured the amazing St. Michael’s Cave – stalagmites and stalactites and a spectacular concert auditorium built inside the caves.

We walked back down the mountain along with LOTS of Barbary Apes (Macaques). They are quite used to people and ignored us – as long as we didn’t have any food. No one is quite sure how the apes arrived in Gibraltar, but they have become the country’s unofficial ambassadors.

Finally we traveled to Princess Caroline’s Battery and the entrance of the Great Siege Tunnels. We walked through the labyrinth of tunnels which were constructed as a massive defense system.

When we got back to the ship, we enjoyed lunch and relaxing afternoon on deck. I also decided to do one more load of wash. Thanks to the Icelandic volcano, many folks may be delayed on their return home. We are fairly confident that our flights will be on time, but just in case we now have enough clean things to weather a delay.
Our sail-away from Gibraltar was about 6pm. Just prior another ship docked next to us (called the “Ventura”!) left the harbor. The two ships had a duel with their horns. First, the Ventura sounded its horn. Then, the Magic did something we’d not heard before. It sounded three single tones, then a brief pause, and then our song – twice! The two ships went back and forth a few times. It was great fun. Lots of people cheering on the decks of both ships. The other ship’s horn was pretty lame compared to the Disney Magic horn!

The entertainment schedule was modified a bit this evening. Mike and I attended a short adult comedy show in Rockin’ Bar D. Good laughs.
Dinner was in Lumiere’s – just the two of us as our tablemates were in Palo.
Afterwords I watched as they unveiled a huge mural designed by Ducky Williams and painted by VoluntEars along with a number of passengers. The mural is being donated to a hospital in Barcelona.

Tonight we enjoyed the Crew Talent Show along with dancing with some of the officers. Lots of hidden talent among the staff!
