This Disney World Attraction is Officially Back Open After a Delay

Magic Kingdom threw us for a bit of a loop yesterday, but we’re happy to say things are back on track now!

Cinderella Castle

Under The Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid was scheduled to be under refurbishment for routine maintenance through July 25th. So imagine our surprise when we walked up an hour after the park opened to find it was still closed! We’re happy to report that the snags have now been resolved, and the ride is back open.

Disney Vacation Planner

Yesterday, July 26th, we kept an eye on Under The Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid all day, and it remained closed through rope drop, midday, and into the early afternoon. In fact, it wasn’t until around 6 PM that it finally reopened to the public again.

We track all the wait times for every attraction throughout the parks, so when one closes when it’s not supposed to, we start seeing red flags! Keeping track of all of these wait times helps us create perfect days in the parks so you can wait as little time as possible.

And hey, we’re pretty big Little Mermaid fans!

Technically, the ride did open on the day it was supposed to, but when we asked Cast Members in the morning what was keeping it closed, they couldn’t provide an answer. We wondered if the Ursula animatronic was a little mad her ride was messed with (even if it WAS just routine maintenance to keep it running smoothly), and she decided to work her spell a bit to make things more difficult.

Maybe she was upset she didn’t make it onto the new nighttime parade in Magic Kingdom, Disney Starlight. There are incredible characters like The Blue Fairy, Moana, and Elsa, but Ursula (and Ariel) didn’t seem to make the floats.

So many Princes and Princesses were on the float, too!

Thankfully, the ride is (so far) running smoothly today and opened right on time. We’re looking forward to riding it soon to see if there are any noticeable differences in the attraction after the refurbishment.
