When it starts pouring rain outside, you’re likely expecting your favorite outdoor Disney World rides to close temporarily.

Often, Disney World rides are able to run as long as it is just raining outside, but if there’s lightning in the area, Disney will shut down a LOT of rides. That’s why you may see the wait times for indoor rides jump up, as those will stay open (so make your way to one fast before everyone else does!) However, rides often go down due to technical issues, and some close more than we expect. This is why we tell you to expect closures during your trip!
Magic Kingdom
Over in Magic Kingdom, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train closed 37 times in 24 days. Although the ride seems pretty short and simple, there’s actually a lot going on with this attraction! Don’t forget — there are a bunch of animatronics throughout the ride.

Magic Carpets of Aladdin also closed 34 times in 16 days, which is a little more surprising. Again, it’s an outdoor attraction, but this one has been in need of some TLC for a while, according to many Disney fans.

Seriously, have you heard the way it creaks when it starts? It scares us sometimes. We’re kidding…mostly.
EPCOT
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure closed 32 times in 20 days, and while this is an indoor attraction, the tech used for the ride is pretty fancy, so when one thing goes wrong, the whole ride will close. The attraction uses a trackless ride system, so making sure those ride vehicles work properly is SUPER important.

Living with the Land, another indoor attraction, closed 23 times in 16 days. This one is the most surprising to us because, well, it’s a boat ride. Obviously, things can go wrong, but this is usually one of the ones we count on being open most of the time!

Spaceship Earth closed 23 times in 17 days, but this older attraction also needs some TLC (maybe some day!), and we’d also like to mention that Test Track was only open through June 16th, but it still managed to go down 22 times in 11 days (YIKES — it was time for that refurbishment!).
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Rise of the Resistance closed 43 times in 23 days, and this was TOTALLY expected. Again, this tech is extremely advanced, so you might not want to wait until the end of the day to ride it for the first time just in case it goes down and doesn’t come back up.

Another unsurprising closure report comes from Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which closed 27 times in 17 days. Again, this technology is wildly complicated, so they’ll shut it down briefly to get it working properly and ensure everyone is safe. This is another trackless ride, and as you may be noticing, those types of rides tend to close pretty often.

But Slinky Dog Dash didn’t make it on the list for once, so good for you, Slinky Dog Dash!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Expedition Everest closed 35 times in 18 days, which is a little more than we were expecting. This is an outdoor attraction, so storms will shut it down.

Now, TriceraTop Spin closed 35 times in 24 days and Kali River Rapids closed 31 times in 21 days. These are…well these are harder to explain because other than being outdoor rides, TriceraTop Spin has a habit of closing more than we expect, and we think Kali River Rapids was just having a rough month.
