What’s your preferred method of travel? Do you pack up your car and hit the road, or do you prefer to fly when you can?

If you’re someone who likes to fly, you have a lot of choices when it comes to how you book your flights. You can purchase your tickets directly through your chosen airline, through a third-party booking site, or with a travel agent. If you’re someone who likes to use Google Flights for booking your travel, then the way you purchase plane tickets might be about to change.
Google Flights is a service through Google that allows you to search for flights and see lots of different options for plane tickets from multiple airlines at many price points.

Once you’ve found the flight you want to book, you currently have the option to book that flight directly through Google instead of through the airline’s website. However, that option will be going away soon, according to an article in Yahoo! The feature, called “Book on Google,” is winding down in areas outside of the United States, and the company has plans to phase it out in the U.S. starting sometime after March 31st, 2023.

The company said in a statement that it is phasing out this feature because there is not much interest in it from users and that most travelers prefer to book their airfare directly with the airline rather than using a third party like Google, reported Yahoo.
Google Flights will not be shutting down, though. Users will still be able to use the service to compare prices on different flights and when they’re ready to book, purchase airfare directly through the airline’s websites.

Starting September 30th, Book on Google will no longer be available for “most countries and regions outside the United States,” according to the Travel Help page on Google. This page also notes that any flights that had been booked using Book on Google before that time will be unaffected.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more news on this matter, and will let you know if there are any updates. In the meantime, if you’ll be traveling soon, make sure to take a look at the U.S. airlines with the most delays and cancellations, as well as the U.S. airlines most likely to bump travelers off their flights!
