There are a lot of exciting new offerings coming to Disney World soon!

One of the resort’s biggest ongoing projects involves an incredibly immersive new Star Wars-themed hotel. It seems like a dream come true for many fans, but there are a few things we think you should know before you book your 2-night vacation “in space.”
So You Want to “Go to Space” in Disney World?
If you ask us, it seems like Disney World is on a bit of a “space” kick right now. There are currently a variety of ways to enjoy some out-of-this-world entertainment in the theme parks, including some big ones coming soon!

Want to launch from the earth in a flight simulation across the galaxy? Try out Mission: SPACE at EPCOT, or the more mild (and Star Wars-themed) Star Tours in Hollywood Studios. You could even stop by Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and try piloting the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

And speaking of Galaxy’s Edge, Disney World’s newest land takes you to a whole new world (literally) on Batuu! Couple that with a ride on the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, and you’ll feel as though you stepped into some of the most iconic space movies of the day.

But perhaps the two space-themed experiences that’ll require the most planning right now are the new Space 220 restaurant and the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel. Both are pricey, but truly immersive and unique offerings. Should you choose one over the other or do them both?
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
Let’s start by breaking down Disney World’s upcoming Star Wars hotel. First of all, it’s less of a regular hotel, and more of a cruise-like experience, where guests will be “onboard” for two nights and have a “port of call” in Galaxy’s Edge.

Throughout your time on the Halcyon (that’s the name of the ship), you’ll participate in onboard activities, enjoy unique dining, and watch interactive stories unfold around you. If you choose, you can check out offerings like lightsaber training and games of Sabacc, or learn about the inner workings of the ship on the bridge. And during your time at the Galactic Starcruiser, you’ll truly feel immersed in the environment — every window will have a view of “space.”

But if you want to add this experience to your next Disney World trip, it’s going to cost you big time! Disney released some sample pricing for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, which included a possible price tag of $4809 total for just two guests. That’s certainly not cheap!

As exciting as this new offering sounds, there are a lot of questions to consider before you spend that kind of money. Will it be worth it if you’re not a Star Wars fan? What if you don’t enjoy participating in the story? What if you get on the ship and feel trapped because there aren’t any real windows and you can’t come and go as you please? Well, we may have a solution!
We Recommend Trying Space 220 First
Like we said, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is a BIG commitment with a hefty price tag. Before you decide to take the leap and book a stay on the Halcyon, we first recommend trying out the similar (and smaller-scale) experience at Space 220.

Space 220, like Galactic Starcruiser, is home to panoramic views of “space,” so you’ll get a feel of what the environment will be like onboard the Star Wars ship. If you don’t enjoy it for the hour it takes you to eat at Space 220, then you’ll know not to book a stay at the new hotel.

Also, Space 220 is a much cheaper experience, so it’s a great opportunity for a trial run. Dinner is $79 per adult and lunch is $55, which is still pricey, but much less than the thousands of dollars you risk with the other, more expensive “trip to space.” (If the prix fixe meal prices are still too much for your budget, then you can check out the Space 220 lounge!)

Even though a restaurant isn’t nearly as intensive as a 2-day hotel visit, Space 220 is a good starting point for those who are unsure about the upcoming resort. We’d hate for you to spend thousands on a trip that you ultimately don’t end up enjoying, so we recommend preparing yourself as much as possible. Plus, if you stop by Space 220 first, you get a delicious meal out of it — it’s a win-win!
