There has been a ton of new technology introduced into Disney World recently.

We’ve seen the introduction of MagicMobile so that MagicBands are no longer necessary, and the My Disney Experience app is becoming even more essential for your Disney World vacation. Magic Kingdom recently did a trial run of some new technology as well, but now it seems like that testing has come to an end.
Magic Kingdom began testing facial recognition technology for park entry back in March. The test period was supposed to last only a month, but it ended up being continued for a longer time frame.

The new system was an alternative to the biometric finger scan that used to be required to enter the parks, with the new technology being tested as an optional choice during the trial period. When the testing didn’t end on its scheduled date, we wondered if it would be sticking around, but today the signs and setup were all gone from the park entrance area.

This morning, we entered the park as normal — just tapping our ticket on the scanner. When we spoke to some Cast Members, we were told that facial recognition may return in the future, but it depends on a few different factors.

Based on guest feedback and results from the testing, we might see this return in the future. Disney is analyzing the results to see how well the photos actually turned out and if the technology worked well enough to recognize guests.
