REVIEW: People Keep Spending $73 to Eat at This Magic Kingdom Restaurant…But Should They?

Planning a day in Magic Kingdom and not sure where you should eat while you’re there?  We’ve got you covered!

Cinderella Castle

Here at AllEars, we know all the ins and outs of Disney dining — including where you should definitely eat, and where you might want to skip. We recently stopped by Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom and are bringing you our FULL review!

Background

This restaurant sits in Fantasyland and takes guests inside Belle and Beast’s castle. It’s been through many changes over the years, but right now, you can find French-inspired dishes served as part of a 3-course, prix fixe menu for both lunch and dinner. It costs $72 per adult and $43 per child and includes one appetizer, one entrée, and a dessert.

Let’s journey to the castle!

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

When you walk inside this restaurant, you are met with elegant royal decor, including stained glass of Belle and Beast Dancing and a lovely tapestry on the wall.

Be our Guest Entryway

As you venture further, you are met with even more regal details, including suits of armor lining the walls, ornate carvings on the walls,  and royal flags hanging from the ceiling.

Suits of Armor!

Finally, you enter the main room of the restaurant, The Grand Ballroom!

Be Our Guest

This magical room feels straight out of the movie with the decor, painted ceiling, the nighttime sky illuminating the room, and the music playing in the background. While this room is beautiful and grand, it is only one of several rooms you could be dining in. You could also dine in the West Wing.

Be Our Guest West Wing

This room is the opposite of the bright ballroom; it is darkly lit with tattered cloth hanging from the walls, and the ceiling really immerses guests in the moody atmosphere of the Beast’s forbidden room.

West Wing

You even get to see the painting the Beast shreds in the movie. There is one final room you could dine in called The Rose Gallery.

Gallery Room

This final room really highlights Belle and Beast’s romance with portraits of them on the walls and a statue of their iconic dance sitting in the middle of the room!

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

First up, we grabbed the Handsome Brute for $18.50. This is made with vodka, Chambord liqueur, pomegranate juice, raspberry, and lemon juice,  finished with a garnished Sugared Rim. We thought this drink was really delicious and well-balanced!

Handsome Brute

This cocktail was very enjoyable! The Chambord brought out the fruity, raspberry flavor, and the tartness from the pomegranate helps to balance out the sweetness.

For the appetizer, we tried the French Onion Soup au Gratin made with rich beef broth, sherry wine, and Swiss cheese. This was a dream come true for cheese lovers! There were so many layers of cheese atop the hot, savory soup, which is why it’s a favorite of ours.

French Onion Soup

The Swiss cheese was incredible and complemented really well by the richness of the broth and the onions. We could not recommend this one anymore! If you love cheese, you have to try this.

Sooo much cheese!

Moving on to the entree, we grabbed the Dry-aged Duroc Pork Chop. This comes with garlic confit mashed potatoes, vegetables, and a whole-grain mustard sauce. We were surprised by how much we enjoyed this one!

Dry-Aged Duoc Pork Chop

We were lucky enough to get a perfectly cooked medium. Pork chops can be finicky, so we were surprised by how melt-in-your-mouth this turned out to be.

The garlic mashed potatoes were so smooth and creamy, not overly garlicky. The root vegetables added a nice balancing touch. The mustard sauce was absolutely fantastic. It added a great bit of flavor and something unique to dip the pork chop into!

So yummy!

Finally, we grabbed the Crème Brûlée Tart. This is made with orange custard, passion fruit meringue, and a Chantilly cream. Unfortunately, this was not our favorite dessert we’ve had here.

Crème Brûlée Tart

The cream was loose and had a bit of a goopy texture — almost too goopy. We did enjoy the crust, and the meringue was nice and light! However, the lemon was highly acidic in the cream, which might have been why it did not set properly. Overall, not our favorite dessert. Try The Grey Stuff or the Blooming Rose (which is filled with The Grey Stuff) instead!

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You want the very best in Disney Imagineering. When we tell you that it feels like you’re stepping into the story of Beauty and the Beast, we mean it. Every part of this restaurant is themed to perfection. The Grand Ballroom is epic. The West Wing is moody and dramatic. The Rose Gallery is charming and sweet. If you’re looking for true “Disney” theming, this is the place to go.
  • You’re dining with children. You can see the ACTUAL enchanted rose. The Beast strolls through his castle to greet you. They serve The Grey Stuff – and it’s delicious! Disney does a lot to make this place feel special, and for kids, it will feel like a fancy, schmancy meal fit for royalty. This is where to eat if you’re trying to impress your family.
  • You’re craving French Onion Soup. Be honest. Do you ever make French Onion Soup at home? No. Does the French Onion Soup here taste really good? Yes! While the rest of the menu may not be as highly reviewed, the French Onion Soup is a consistent hit at this restaurant. Oh, and it’s one of the few spots in Disney World that serves French Onion Soup!

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • Expecting to take photos with Belle and the Beast. We hate to break it to you, but you won’t find Belle at Be Our Guest. To make matters worse, the Beast doesn’t stop for a proper meet-and-greet, either. You’ll see him pop into the dining room during your meal, but don’t expect to take any personal photos with the characters from Beauty and the Beast.
  • Not interested in a prix fixe meal. We need to address the elephant in the (ball)room: The price. This is one of those places that “locks” you into a set cost and set meal. You can’t skip the appetizer, and you’d better save room for dessert – it’s all included. This also means you need to budget enough time for the full experience. Those with a jam-packed schedule in Magic Kingdom may be better off at a quick-service restaurant.
  • Looking for a 5-star meal. Is this the worst food in Disney World? Definitely not! Is it the best food in Disney World? Not exactly. It’s fair to say that most people come to Be Our Guest for the experience of dining in the Beast’s castle, not the fine dining. The entrees have a reputation for being inconsistent in quality, and it’s hard to justify the price when your meal is just “meh.”

Overall, we enjoyed this visit to Be Our Guest! The Pork Chops were surprising, and the French Onion Soup really blew us away…again! Next time, we would skip the Crème Brûlée Tart and opt for the Grey Stuff, but as a whole, this was a really delicious and fun meal! Now, if we can just get the Beast meet and greet back

In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney news and more!
