Is there really one hotel room to rule them all?

It’s one thing to sort out the best Disney World hotel, but it’s another to pick the very best room. While there is no unanimous answer, there is one specific hotel room that gets brought up over and over again as ELITE — not just by our AllEars, but by Disney fans, as well.
If you’ve ever scrolled past photos of giraffes casually wandering past a balcony and thought, “Yeah, that’s the one,” you’re not alone. Many Disney fans consider a Savanna View room at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge the best Disney World hotel room…and for good reason!

On paper, it’s unbeatable. What other Disney World hotel rooms allow you to wake up, open the curtains, and see savanna animals like zebras, giraffes, ankole cattle, and kudu? They’re just vibing outside your window like it’s no big deal. It’s immersive in a way no other Disney hotel can even compete.

You’re not just staying in a Disney-owned, African-themed hotel — you’re literally staying inside a living, breathing environment that feels more National Geographic than theme park. When everything lines up, it’s jaw-dropping and absolutely worth every penny.

But there is the catch — well, two catches, actually. The first is the cost. A room with this view already costs you $700 to $2,000+ a night, depending on the room, the season of your visit, the days of the week, and other variables.

Rooms that offer views of a savanna include:
- Deluxe Studio ( 1 Queen Bed and 1 Double-Size Sleeper Sofa / Sleeps up to 4 adults)
- 3 Bedroom Grand Villa ( 1 King Bed, 4 Queen Beds, and 1 Queen-Size Sleeper Sofa / Sleeps up to 12 adults)
- 2 Bedroom Villa ( 1 King Bed, 2 Queen Beds, 1 Queen-Size Sleeper Sofa, and 1 Twin-Size Sleeper Chair / Sleeps up to 9 adults)
- 1 Bedroom Villa ( 1 King Bed, 1 Queen-Size Sleeper Sofa, and 1 Twin-Size Sleeper Chair / Sleeps up to 5 adults)
- Savanna View – King Bed (Sleeps up to 2 adults)
- Savanna View ( 2 Queen Beds / Sleeps up to 4 adults)
- Savanna View – Club Level Access (2 Queen Beds / Sleeps up to 4 adults)
- Savanna View – King Bed – Club Level Access (Sleeps up to 2 adults)
- Savanna View – 1 BR Suite – Club Level Access ( 2 Queen Beds and 1 Queen-Size Sleeper Sofa / Sleeps up to 6 adults)
- 2 Bedroom Suite – Club Level Access ( 1 King Bed, 2 Queen Beds, and 1 Queen-Size Sleeper Sofa / Sleeps up to 8 adults)
- Royal Asante Presidential St-Clb Level Access ((2 Queen Beds / Sleeps up to 4 adults)

But here’s the part Disney doesn’t exactly spell out in bold letters: there is a chance you barely see animals at all if you don’t know how it works.
The animals aren’t out there 24/7, and they’re definitely not on your vacation schedule. Feeding times, animal rotations, weather, and even time of year all play a huge role in what you’ll actually see. It also doesn’t help that you’re ultimately there for a theme park vacation. If you’re hitting rope drop every morning and coming back to your room after dark, congratulations — you’ve paid a premium for a very expensive view of grass.

The secret is timing. Early mornings and late afternoons are when the savannas really come alive, especially around scheduled feedings. That’s when the room transforms from “nice balcony” to a true wildlife experience. Per Disney, ” You’ll want to check with the Lobby Concierge or Club Level Concierge to find out when the feeding times will be during your stay.”

A stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge is also elite thanks to the resort’s fantastic dining options!
Sanaa serves up DELICIOUS African cuisine with Indian flavors — and we’re especially partial to the Indian-style Bread Service, which comes with five breads and all nine dipping accompaniments. This restaurant is in the running as one of the BEST restaurants in all of Disney World.

And then there’s Jiko – The Cooking Place, which offers “vibrant spices, crackling wood-burning ovens and boutique South African wines transport you to the heart of Africa.” You’ll find a healthy blend of African, Indian, and Mediterranean cuisine here.

Boma – Flavors of Africa is yet another Animal Kingdom Lodge winner that is themed after an African marketplace. It serves up all-you-care-to-enjoy buffets at breakfast and dinner, both of which feature flavors from over 50 African countries, along with favorite American classics. You can grab a turkey bobotie (a type of South African quiche) for breakfast or even oak-roasted meats and coastal seafood dishes for dinner.

While the rooms, restaurants, and amenities are top-notch, we do have to warn about a significant transportation drawback.
Because its location is a bit out there, with only Animal Kingdom nearby, Animal Kingdom Lodge currently limits its free transportation to bus services to and from the other Disney World locations. There’s no monorail or Skyliner access, unfortunately — and relying on a bus schedule can be tedious, especially when that’s the main form of transportation for EVERYONE staying at the hotel. If you can get past that, though, Animal Kingdom Lodge truly is an elite resort.

When you actually get views of the animals, a savanna view room at Animal Kingdom Lodge is truly unbeatable. However, be sure you book with the intent to view these animals, and be prepared to shift your schedule to accommodate them. If you do, get ready for one of those rare Disney experiences that somehow still manage to live up to the hype, no matter how many times you do it. Add that to the wonderful dining and first-class amenities of Animal Kingdom Lodge, and you get that “chef’s kiss” hotel stay.

Nope. Not even close. The best room is a Animal Kingdom Lodge Standard View room that overlooks the stable/barn structure. When all the animals are done eating what is placed on the Savannah, they return to the structure for additional food and shelter from excessive sun or rain. I managed to get rooms 2344 and 2346 back in 2022. We saw more animals and a better variety of animals than anyone who paid the premium for the Savannah View.
