Disney World Refuses to Bring Back This Hotel Perk — But It’s Actually Saving Fans Money

A popular hotel perk has been missing in Disney World for years — but there is a silver lining to its absence.

If you’re staying in a Disney World hotel, there are lots of perks you can take advantage of during your stay. Depending on where and when you visit, you might find a character meet-and-greet at the hotel, snag free water park tickets, or get to take advantage of extra time in the parks. But, even with all of the great hotel benefits, there is one perk Disney guests have been asking to return for years that still hasn’t come back…although that might be a good thing for your budget!

For years, Disney World offered the popular perk of hotel package delivery to guests staying in Disney hotels. This perk saved hotel guests from having to haul their merchandise purchases around the parks all day. Instead, when a hotel guest purchased something at a store around Disney World, they had the option to have their package sent directly to the hotel, where it would “magically” arrive back in their room.

Lots of guests took advantage of this perk — it could save guests from having to lug around large or heavy items, make it easier to justify buying something early in the day since it didn’t have to be carried around, and be a huge help to guests staying in rooms far away from their transportation stops.

So, where did this popular perk go? Enter COVID-19 and the 2020 resort shutdown. When Disney World reopened in the summer of 2020, package delivery was no longer offered for hotel guests. At the time, that wasn’t totally unexpected, since many perks didn’t initially return. But, in the years since, even as nearly everything else at the resort has returned to normal, package delivery is nowhere to be found, despite guest demand.

On the one hand, it’s a huge bummer considering the many inconvenient situations it can save guests from when it comes to hauling merch around. But there is an upside to the continued absence of hotel package delivery. One of our readers, Joone, pointed out that it has actually saved them money in the long run, saying, “hubby recons we have saved money since this option is no longer available.”

Other people agreed that the lack of hotel delivery kept them from buying as much in he parks. Denise said, “This is the one perk we are hoping will come back. It was so nice to just shop and not have to worry about carrying bags around. I think they’re actually losing money by taking that perk away because honestly, we used to buy more when we didn’t have to worry about carrying bags around with us, and I wonder how many other people feel the same way.”

Others pointed out that even if they could pick up purchases at the front of the park, it would make a huge difference in their shopping habits. Ashley said, “Or at least be able to send to the front of the park. I would spend more if there was this option, or send back to the resort.”

Hotel package delivery has been gone for years at this point, and Disney isn’t showing any signs of bringing it back. Will the potential for increased guest spending ever encourage Disney to revive this once-essential perk? Again, there are no signs of it on the horizon, but we’ll keep an eye out for any news on this or other future Disney hotel perks!
