REVIEW: Fried Chicken Bao Deserves a Top Spot on Your Disneyland To-Do List

There are TONS of restaurants over in Disneyland, and we know firsthand what it feels like to be overwhelmed by all the options. That’s why we’re here to help!

Time to eat!

Here at AllEars, we know all the ins and outs of Disney restaurants — including where you should definitely eat, and where you should skip. We recently stopped by Docking Bay 7 in Galaxy’s Edge, and we’re bringing you our FULL review!

Background

Docking Bay 7 opened with Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland on May 31st, 2019, and is one of two quick service dining locations in the land (not including snack stands and Oga’s Cantina).

It’s time to explore eats from a galaxy far, far away!

On Batuu, where Galaxy’s Edge is located, Black Spire Outpost serves up quick service meals with a Delivery Shuttle docked right on top, which is why it’s called Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo.

We love the design in here!

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant!

Atmosphere

This restaurant is themed as if you’re inside a working hangar bay, and you can choose from a variety of dishes prepared with ingredients from across the galaxy. Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs is the chef at this location, and he’s ready to appease the public with delicious and exotic options, thanks to his planet-hopping travels.

Welcome to Docking Bay 7!

Once you’ve gotten your food, you can choose to sit inside the spacious hangar, or grab a table in the rustic outdoor seating area surrounded by the crumbling walls of the former marketplace.

But enough about that, it’s time to eat!

Food & Drinks

To drink, we grabbed the iconic Cold Brew Black Caf for $7.79, which is Cold Brew Coffee topped with Sweet Cream Cheese and Chocolate Puffs.

Cold Brew Black Caf

No matter what time of day it is, if you like cold brew, this is ALWAYS a good choice. This drink is popular for a reason, and we totally understand why. The cream cheese cold foam and cocoa puffs go together beautifully, despite what you may think. If you enjoy sweet drinks, this is a must-grab!

Delicious!

For our first entree, we tried the Surabat Noodles with Crispy Marinated Eopie for $18.99, which is Lo Mein Noodles, Bok Choy, Ground Pork, Togarashi Pork Rinds. This has a great portion of food for the price, and we enjoyed the citrus/soy sauce/ginger taste to the sauce. It’s on the saltier side, but we mean that in the best way — if you’re a more adventurous eater, this is definitely an option you won’t want to miss!

Surabat Noodles

Our other entree was the Fried Chicken Baos for $14.99. These are Two Crispy Chicken Baos, Sweet Chili Sauce, Scallion Salad, Cucumber Coins, and wow are these baos fluffy! The chicken is very well cooked, but anyone with a spice sensitivity will need to watch out for the sweet chili sauce, because it does have a kick. The vegetables offer a good crunch, and all the flavors here work very well together. For those who want something a little spicier, this is a good way to go.

For dessert, we tried the Vintian Mineral Mousse for $8.79, which is Banana Brûlée-covered Dark Chocolate Mousse, Strawberry Mousse, Vanilla Chantilly, Chocolate Crumble, and Cherry Garnish. The chocolate mousse was the richest flavor on this plate, but it blended very well with the fruit flavors of the rest of the dish. All the flavors were balanced, which is impressive for a dish like this — we’d totally get it again!

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You want some dining options that are a little different
  • You’re a big Star Wars fan
  • You don’t mind a smaller menu

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You want a larger menu
  • You’re a pickier eater
  • You don’t really get Star Wars/aren’t a big fan of it
A very solid meal!

We totally recommend this spot for Star Wars fans and those looking to be a little more adventurous with what they eat, and we feel it gets looked over often when it shouldn’t.

We’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disneyland and beyond, so make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney news and more!
