REVIEW: I Ate at Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean Restaurant and You Won’t Believe the Best Part

Here at AllEars, we’re always reviewing restaurants around Disney World and Disneyland. However, we’re leaving the country with this food review!

Disneyland Paris

We were over at Captain Jack’s – Restaurant des Pirates at Disneyland Paris and are bringing you our FULL review!

Background

Captain Jack’s – Restaurant des Pirates is themed after the iconic Disney movie series, Pirates of the Caribbean. Of course, it features none other than Jack Sparrow.

Captain Jack’s – Restaurant des Pirates

It’s a pirates’ paradise bedecked in flags, banners, and wanted posters from a lawless age. There’s something for the most seafaring of travelers, as waiters in new pirate garb serve up hearty Creole cuisine, cooking in this not-so-hidden treasure overlooking the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

The restaurant’s theming is top-notch, making you think a pirate’s life really is for you!

Here we are!

There was a lot of seating, and it lighting inside made it feel like you were eating outdoors.

The decorations were a whole vibe.

There were posters, maps, and pictures on the wall.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

We got the Pirates’ Treasure Menu, which came with a starter, main course, and dessert, for €55 (about $64 USD). Let’s start with the starters (it just makes sense). The first starter we had was the smoked chicken chiquetaille with green papaya. This was one of our favorite things we had during the entire meal. It was served cold, and it was surprisingly good. It had an excellent crunch to it, and it had a ton of chicken to go alongside a load of vegetables and nuts. It was a crunchy, tasty, and light dish.

Next, we had the Caribbean Fish Soup. It won’t blow you away, but it was very enjoyable. It was super savory and slightly acidic in a good way. It was FULL of different types of seafood. The main flavor was tomato soup, but it had its fair share of protein. To be honest, it did taste like soup from a can — but in a good way!

The last starter was the Spiced Black Pudding and Smoked Sausage, with Creole-style Pickled Vegetables. The black pudding was like any black pudding — meaty, earthy, nutty. The salad was very nice and acidic, with a great crunch to it. The smoked sausage was very nice and very enjoyable. There wasn’t a standout on this plate for us.

After the starters, we got to dive into the main dishes. First, we had the Baked Mahi-Mahi Fillet, stewed peppers, coconut sauce, and captain’s rice. This was also one of our favorite things we had. It was a little thin and overcooked, so it was a tad dry, but not terrible. The coconut sauce and rice were good, pretty much what you would expect. The sauce added a good kick. Everything separate was alright, but mixing it made it so much better!

After that, we had the Chicken and Prawn Colombo, with the captain’s rice. The prawn did still have its head, which could throw some people off if that’s something you’re not used to. The base was the same rice as the other dish. The chicken was good and wasn’t too dry, thanks to the base around it. There wasn’t a lot of prawn, and there were a lot of vegetables. It was a little bland, unfortunately, but not terrible.

Lastly, we had the Grilled Jerk Pork, with sweet chilli ketchup, sweet potato mash, and cassava crisps. This was one of our most enjoyed meals at Disneyland Paris as a whole. The pork was really nice and spiced, with a great texture — not too chewy, not too firm. It did come out a little cold, though. The sweet chilli ketchup had a slight spice, and the sweet potato mash was nice with an earthy flavor. The crisps were like plantain chips, and added another texture element.

Last, but not least, the dessert options. The first dessert we had was the Caribbean Rice Pudding with mango compote. This one was very enjoyable. It had such a sweet mango compote, and it worked perfectly with the plain rice pudding. They both gave each other a great texture contrast. There was even a little bit of cinnamon on top to add more depth, same with the chocolate curl.

Next, we had the Tropical Fruit Soup, with muscovado sugar, coconut, and cashew emulsion. This was kind of like a parfett in a weird way. It had a more lumpy texture, with a nice and sweet taste thanks to the mango and pineapple. It’s super fruity and has a hint of nuttiness, thanks to the coconut and cashew emulsion.

The last thing we had was the Roasted Pineapple Shortbread, with vanilla and bourbon whipped cream. This was really nice as well, capping off the best part of the meal, the desserts. It broke off really easily and cut smoothly. The roasted pineapples were very flavorful — cooked just enough that the sugar almost came out of the pineapple. The bourbon whipped cream had a nice vanilla flavor to it, pairing great with the dessert. It also came with chocolate!

Magic or Tragic?

This Disneyland Paris restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You want that special Disney theming! We loved the pirates’ aesthetic with the decorations and the overall vibe.
  • You want some unique dishes, especially on the seafood and fruity side!
  • You want an experience you won’t get at any other park! This really goes without saying since it’s in a foreign park, but it’s a good reminder to try something new.

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You’re a picky eater! This one also goes without saying since it’s a foreign park, but if you’re a picky eater, we’d probably say this spot might not work for you.
  • You want something quicker! Like any Disney park, there are lots of quick service options, so there are different places we’d recommend to maximize a busy day if that’s your priority.

Overall, we enjoyed our time here. It’s 100% an experience we think is worth it, especially considering we don’t know the next time we’ll get to try a place like this.

  1. Sounds good! The decor looks really cool too. I’ll definitely have to try this next time I’m in DLP!

Btw in case anyone’s wondering why there’s a lot of Caribbean food at a restaurant described as “Creole” – while we think of Creole as being associated with Louisiana, in French it can refer to anything relating to their New World colonies, including Louisiana and the Caribbean.

Also, I think there was a mistranslation on the English menu: the whipped cream with the pineapple shortbread is described as a bourbon vanilla (i.e. vanilla from Madagascar, nothing to do with the liquor) whipped cream, not bourbon and vanilla.
