As a local, I know that there are some years that are better for Disney World vacations, while others might be better avoided. It’s starting to look like 2026 is the year of skipping, and if you can’t stay away, you should at least know what you’re getting into.

Across three of four parks, there are MAJOR (and we really mean major) transformations that will seriously impact your vacation. I’m not saying not to go to Disney World in 2026, but I am saying that 2027 might offer a better trip for creating lifelong memories.
Let’s start off with the classic Magic Kingdom. Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America have shut down permanently to make way for the new Cars Land, Piston Peak. The entire river is currently drained, making Frontierland a rather sad sight.

Construction is also underway on Villains Land, located behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The train is not currently completing a full loop due to this, and you’ll be able to see the construction from the rides. We’re excited about the new lands, but a fully drained river, somewhat covered by walls and surrounded by lots of cranes, doesn’t quite capture the magic.

In Hollywood Studios, Animation Courtyard closed down for The Magic of Disney Animation, a new space dedicated to learning more about different animation departments. This new area is set to open in 2026, but we’re not quite sure when 2026. Disney usually likes to push those dates as much as they can, so we’re expecting towards the end of the calendar year, meaning more and more walls.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is also kicking out Aerosmith to welcome in the Muppets. This transformation is also scheduled for 2026, but again, we’re not sure when exactly within 2026. Hollywood Studios doesn’t have a large number of rides, and you might feel yourself wandering more than usual before heading to your next ride.

Speaking of the Muppets, they got evicted from their courtyard, and the residents of Monsters, Inc. are taking over! Hollywood Studios really did a whole switch-a-roo for everyone! Monstropolis looks like it will be incredible, but with no opening date in sight, all we see are walls, walls, and more walls. Can’t forget about the construction noise you hear while walking to Galaxy’s Edge, too.

You can’t forget about Animal Kingdom, which is removing all of DinoLand U.S.A. Pueblo Esperanza, a Tropical Americas-themed land, is set to open in 2027. In the meantime, Animal Kingdom looks like an active construction zone, and the noise is pretty hard to ignore.

If you just have to go to enjoy some Disney magic next year, what should you do instead? Well, Disneyland is currently celebrating its 70th anniversary, running until the end of summer 2026, with specialty snacks and entertainment. If you loved the Disney World 50th anniversary, this can be a great option for your 2026 vacation.

Not ready to take on the West Coast? I get it! You may want to consider a Disney Cruise Line vacation. A brand-new ship, the Disney Destiny, is set to debut at the end of 2025, marking their first “Heroes versus Villains” ship. There are plenty of bookings available in 2026. If you want to do something different than a normal Disney Cruise, this is perfect!

Of course, there are the classic ships, too! My personal favorite is the Disney Wish, but the Disney Fantasy and Treasure are also very popular among avid cruisers.

You can still go to Disney World, too! Just be prepared for a lot of construction walls and closures of your usual rides. The magic is still there, just a little more hidden. Keep following AllEars for more!

Last time I went to Anaheim was in the late 80s and no plans to return any time soon. Never been to Orlando and there’s not enough money in the world to induce me to go to Florida.
