NEW STUDY: Gen Z and Millennials Say Disney World Food Isn’t Too Expensive, Would Pay More

A Disney World vacation is NOTORIOUSLY expensive…but Gen Z and Millennials are giving Disney a pass when it comes to food.

Mickey Pretzels are a classic!

Disney World annually raises its prices on EVERYTHING, and the practice often draws no shortage of ire from its guests. However, one of its biggest revenue sources is surprisingly getting a lot of approval, and we’re starting to understand why.

We asked our readers on Facebook“What do you think about Disney World food prices? Too expensive? Or would you pay more?”… and the responses overwhelmingly came to Disney’s defense.

Reader Spencer compared fast food prices outside of Disney to the costs inside the Parks, writing, “A meal ‘deal’ at a Wendy’s is $12 where I live. I cannot complain about Disney food prices.”

Reader Ellen added, “For the most part, food is pretty in line with that we pay to go to Chicago. A few bucks more but not something with sticker shock. Now the alcohol is another story – 20.00-28.00 for a cocktail is high to me.”

Alcohol prices have been criticized for years, but it seems many guests are satisfied with the food prices. Reader Magical Dad Adventures commented, “Quick service is mostly reasonable. Restaurants are overpriced, but it is what it is for the location. Drinks are the item that’s absurd. $16.50 for a single beer in Galaxy’s Edge is shocking. They are competing with Vegas lounge prices at this point.”

We saw a lot of praise for kids’ meals. Reader Cela wrote, “Order kids meals and save $2-4 bucks for every combo.”

Reader Brian concurred, writing, “Kids meals are not bad at all. We usually get them and it’s what I would have paid at a fast food restaurant off property. Other parks are more pricy for kids meals.”

We saw a lot of comparisons to other parks — including Disneyland. Many readers commented how the food was better priced — and mostly better quality — at Disney World. Parks like SeaWorld and Six Flags were specifically thrown under the bus in this regard.

Reader Nicole wrote, “Way better than Disneyland. Last year when I was at Disneyland, I accidentally opened my WDW app to place a mobile order. I noticed prices for the same items were cheaper. When I was at WDW a couple months ago, everything I ate was more affordable than most places where I grab food at home.”

There were a couple of readers who felt the prices were too high, of course, but readers such as Daryll, Symantha, and Jenny found prices to be similar to the pricing in their hometowns. Reader Symantha wrote, “At the moment they are right in line with what you pay at fast food, so I think it’s great!”

A couple of readers noted that you can find dining options for every budget — and we couldn’t agree more! Disney World dining is what you make of it, and you can experience it however you want — saving a bunch of money OR splurging!

  1. I agree that the cost of food in Disney parks is too high, but as long as people are continuing to buy it, I don’t know that it will ever be reduced. Take advantage of those free dining offers!
Having said that, I love ordering from the kids menu. Still a good portion of food, for a relatively reasonable price. Relatively being the operative word.
    Great article! ??
