New Numbers Prove Having a Backup Plan in Disney World is ESSENTIAL

When you head to Disney World, it’s important to have multiple plans each day.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Sometimes your Plan A doesn’t work out due to a ride closure or weather, so it’s important to have a few different backup plans ready to go. This way, you’re not disappointed when you have to move a few things around. This is especially true during the summer, because we’re seeing firsthand that rain and afternoon thunderstorms truly are wreaking some serious havoc in the parks.

Magic Kingdom

In Magic Kingdom, you may expect some of the more technologically advanced rides to close the most, and in some cases, you’re correct, as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train closed 33 times in 22 days, but that was far from the most. The ride with the most closures? The Magic Carpets of Aladdin closed 40 times in 23 days, and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh closed 40 times in 21 days!

Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Magic Carpets of Aladdin makes sense to us, since it is an outdoor ride, but what in the world is going on with The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh? Additionally, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel closed 36 times in 28 days, but this was mostly due to the fact that the ride closes each night during fireworks.

EPCOT

Following a similar trend, there are no rides in EPCOT that are outdoors and close in storms (with the exception of Test Track, but it’s not yet officially back open), so imagine our surprise when we see that the ride that just recently completed a refurbishment had the most closures. Yep, Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros closed 29 times in 19 days.

In second place was Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure closed 25 times in 18 days, which wasn’t as surprising to us considering the tech involved, but third place shocked us again! Spaceship Earth closed 22 times in 17 days, which makes more sense now why the attraction will be undergoing a refurbishment beginning in August.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

We were not at ALL surprised to see that the ride with the most closures was none other than Slinky Dog Dash with 37 closures in 22 days! Since this is another outdoor attraction, this is one to keep an eye on if you know that your day will be rainy.

Slinky Dog Dash

In second place was none other than Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance with 28 closures in 21 days, and despite its many refurbishments, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith closed 26 times in 18 days. We’re still holding out hope that maybe the Muppets retheme will help this ride magically — Kermit can do anything…right?

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

This is what we REALLY mean when we say that rain can truly affect your plans for the day. Two out of the six open rides in Animal Kingdom are outdoor, and when those storms hit, they’ll go down. Expedition Everest closed 27 times in 19 days and Kali River Rapids closed 21 times in 17 days.

Expedition Everest

If either of these are on your list to ride for the day, you’ll want to pay close attention to the radar, because the moment those storms hit, these rides will go down until it clears, and other wait years may shoot up.
